Doris is gaining on Sue
and Kitty, travel-wise
Doris Carpenter Rogers,
Class of 1971, isn’t going to let the Ahouse sisters out-travel her.
In May she and husband
Scott left their Charleston, West Virginia home for a mini-vacation in Palm
Beach, Florida.

Now they’re at it again,
this time in St. Augustine, Florida, just around the corner from where Pat
Meredith Wills, Class of 1950, and husband Don Wills, the former Fairmont West
athlete, have their winter home on St. Augustine Beach (it’s too cold in their Fairmont residence
then).
Gloats Doris, daughter of
Iris Martin Carpenter, Class of 1950:
“Having
a great time in St Augustine, has rained some every day, but a rainy day at the
beach is better than a day at home!”
As
for the Ahouse sisters -- Sue Ahouse Schrader, Class of 1971, is at her place at Stoney
Lonesome unless she made a getaway to Piscataway, New Jersey, her other home,
and Mary “Kitty” Ahouse Morrison, Class of 1968, who lives in on
Lyndon Avenue in Monongah, is recovering from her short Fairmont General Hospital
stay for tests and “saving all my money for my next big trip in
November when I will be going to Cabo San Lucas
with Sue.”
Maybe Doris can sneak aboard for the
Cabo San Lucas trip. After all, Doris and Sue have been friends since second
grade. That’s what friends are for, right?
After reading this article, Marcia Michalski Westfall, traveling on a Harley motorcycle with husband Dave Westfall when she isn't teaching kindergarten in Marion County, posted:
"Wow, Doris! We're leaving St. Augustine today . . . headed to the Gulf! Dave and I have been 1,410 miles on the bike."
North Marion grad T.J. Getz will be waiting in Clearwater to join the varooming couple for dinner.
The Gulf side is my favorite hangout. When Paula and I go to The Villages and Siesta Key, near Sarasota, in January-March, 2015 it will be my 19th winter on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
By the way, if you are near Sarasota on Feb. 6, 2015, we'll be having the 3rd annual Monongah High Alumni/Sarasota Reunion in the Sarasota home of Bill Meredith, Class of 1957, and wife Roleta. If you think you can make it, email me at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com so that Roleta will know how many plates to set out.
Also, if you're near The Villages, where 100,000 people 55 or older have 40,000 golf carts to get around in and party every night of the year with music and dancing on the squares, email me or call me at (330) 388-4466 and we'll arrange a mini-Monongah High Reunion in The Villages. We'll be staying on Rainbow Drive in The Villages.
