MHS grad George Lee passes away
George “Henry” Lee, Class of 1941, passed away Wednesday, April
1 in Monongah.
George’s late brother, Robert E. Lee, was Class of 1940.
His surviving sons are David Lee, Class of 1967, and Curtis Lee,
Class of 1970.
George’s obituary:
George “Henry” W. Lee, 93, of Swisher Hill,
passed away Wednesday (April 1, 2015) at Fazio’s Eldercare in Monongah.
He was born June 18, 1921, on Swisher Hill, a
son of the late Marvin E. and Beulah Jackson Lee.
George was preceded in death by his wife of
67 years, Lois Koon Lee, on July 8, 2014.
George is survived by his two sons, David Lee
and his wife Nancy, and Curtis Lee and his wife Karen, all of Swisher Hill; his
grandchildren, Holly Lyle, Tim Lee and wife Susan, and Charles “C.W.” Lee;
great-grandchildren, Saccara Lee, Kaitlyn, Georgie and Andrew Lyle; his
step-grandchildren, Gary Dodrill and Abby Messenger; step-great-grandchildren,
Clara and Ashlynn Dodrill; his brother, James Lee of Swisher Hill; sisters,
Eleanor Angelilli of Fairmont and Helen Jean Sturm of Swisher Hill; and his
sister-in-law, Mary Lee of Swisher Hill.
In addition to his parents and wife, George
was preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Lee of Swisher Hill; his
sisters, Arlene Straight, Loretta Malcolm and Mary Barta, all of Swisher Hill;
as well as his brothers-in-law, Wilson Malcolm, Everett “Shorty” Straight,
William Barta, Albert Angelilli and William Sturm.
George loved farming, gardening and working
Draft horses on his family farm. He especially liked operating his 1949
International “Super A” tractor.
George graduated from Monongah High School in
1941.
He went on to serve our country in the U.S.
Navy and retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves. George also retired from the
Western Maryland, B&O and Chessie System Railroad.
He was a member of the St. John Lodge No. 24
A.F. and A.M. in Shinnston. George was also a member of Everson Baptist Church.
In 2004, George was awarded the Conservation
Farm of the Year for the district of Marion, Monongalia and Preston counties.
