Jimmie Lemoin Herron, Class of 1946, widower of Dortha Jean Fleming, Class of 1948, passed away Saturday, April 18. He lived
in Barrackville. Dortha died in 2007.
He was a brother of Lucille Herron
Anderson, Class of 1950. Their parents were Dewey and Emma Lowe
Herron.

Jimmie
(James) Lemoin Herron of Barrackville, surrounded by his family joined his
Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Arbors in Fairmont. He was
born on August 29, 1928, the only son of the late Dewey and Emma (Lowe) Herron.
James
graduated from Monongah High School in 1946. Upon graduation, he enlisted in
the U.S. Marine Corps and served briefly in China. He was honorably discharged
as a private first class in 1948.
James
married the love of his life, Dortha Jean Fleming on July 2, 1948. Together they
had three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dortha
passed on to Heaven on May 29, 2007.
James
was one of the 21 survivors of the Farmington No. 9 Mine explosion in 1968. He
chose to remain at the No. 9 Mine to aid in the rescue of his 78 friends who
perished. When the No. 9 Mine was officially closed, he transferred to the
Robinson Run Mine where he retired in 1990. James was very proud of his
collaboration with Bonnie Stewart’s book, No. 9: The 1968 Farmington Mine
Disaster.
A
resident of Barrackville since 1967, James was a member of the Barrackville
United Methodist Church and the U.S. Marine Corp League.
Survivors
who will always be guided by his love include: a son, James Keith Herron and
his wife Retta of Monongah; a daughter, Diane Furman and husband David of
Fairmont; grandchildren, Heather Martin and husband Robert of Monongah, Melinda
Brown and husband Dean of Barrackville, Joshua Herron and wife Amy of Monongah,
and Michelle Furman of Alexandria, VA; great-grandchildren, Matthew Martin,
Megan Martin, Kiley Brown, and Jack Herron; sisters, June Slovekosky of
Fairmont, Lucille Anderson and husband Sam of Annapolis, MD; close friends,
Tony and Mary Louise Orsini of Worthington, David and Debbie Reed of
Barrackville.
In
addition to his parents and his wife, James is preceded in death and joined in
heaven with a daughter, Darlene Louise Lawson; sisters, Mildred McNece, and
Louise Miller.
The
family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont
from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday
April 21, in the funeral home with Pastor Janice V. Smith officiating.
Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont. Condolences

of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Barrackville United
Methodist Church or The Wounded Warriors Project.
