WVU’s master tomatoes protector

Mannon Gallegly, WVU professor emeritus of plant pathology, developed tomatoes far more resistant to late blight and Septoria lycopersici, a fungus that causes spotting on leaves.

Their names: West Virginia ’17A and West Virginia ’17B.

Gallegly is 94 years old. He began at WVU in 1949 and officially retired from WVU in 1986 but just can’t stop improving tomatoes.
