Mannon Gallegly, WVU professor emeritus
of plant pathology, developed tomatoes far more resistant to late blight and
Septoria lycopersici, a fungus that causes spotting on leaves.
Their names: West Virginia ’17A and
West Virginia ’17B.
Gallegly is 94 years old. He began at
WVU in 1949 and officially retired from WVU in 1986 but just can’t stop
improving tomatoes.
