Linda’s Jiggs passes away

Andy “Jiggs” Stevenski, a 1950 Grafton High grad married to Linda Tomlinson Stevenski, Class of 1955, passed away Monday, April 10.

They were married for 61 years.

The children’s book author and former Monongah High majorette met Jiggs at the 12^th Street Skating Rink. They have six children and several grandchildren. 

Linda’s brother, William Hammond of Four States, passed away in 2015. Their siblings are Martha Sutcliffe of Mineral Ridge, Ohio, Patty Clark of Ohio and James Hammond of Fairmont.

Linda and Jiggs’ children are Andrea Stevenski, residing at home; Linda Moore and husband Tom of Little Mill Fall; Tim Stevenski and wife Cindy of Grant Town; Andy C. Stevenski and wife Sharletta of Grafton; Thomas Stevenski and fiancée Kim of Booths Creek; and Daniel Stevenski, residing at home.

Jiggs and Linda were among 21 at the reunion of mostly Monongah High alumni that I arranged at the 3 Ways Inn Restaurant in Fairmont in 2015.

I was on my way to my annual Florida winterizing and stopped to visit my sister, Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955, who lives in Rivesville, before taking the auto/train in Virginia for the Florida journey.

Andy Junior “Jiggs” Stevenski, 84, of Monongah, passed into the loving arms of his Jesus on Monday morning, April 10, 2017 at his home. His family had brought him home to care for him in the last few months of his life on God’s great earth.

Andy was born Oct. 21, 1932, in Shinnston, son of the late Andy Paul and Leona Helen (Vasicek) Stevenski. He grew up in the Grafton area.

It is with deepest love and the fondest of memories he is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Linda Lou Tomlinson (Hammond) Stevenski; two daughters, Andrea Stevenski residing at home, Linda Moore and husband Tom of Little Mill Fall; four sons, Tim Stevenski and wife Cindy of Grant Town, Andy C. Stevenski and wife Sharletta of Grafton, Thomas Stevenski and fiancée Kim of Booths Creek and Daniel Stevenski residing at home; his only sister, Mary Nucilli of Elkins; a dear aunt, Anna Lough, who was like a sister to him; Twelve grandchildren include, Chris Stevenski and wife Holly, Amy Toothman and husband Brad, Melanie Gooch and husband Brandon, Chase Stevenski, Tiffany Stevenski, Andy Stevenski and wife Mindy, Adam Stevenski, Brittany McCullough, Jonathan McCullough, Michael Nicholson and wife Clarissa, and Destiny Nicholson , and Danny (Stevenski); nine great grandchildren, Gage Stevenski, Roman Stevenski, Weston Toothman, Avery Toothman, Tristan Stevenski, Austin Stevenski, Aubrey Stevenski, Bryant Nicholson, Aubree Nicholson; four nephews, Mike Nucilli and wife Marge, Carl Nucilli and wife Cindy, Jimmy Nucilli and wife Becky, and Rob Nucilli and wife Terri; a niece, Libby Nucilli. Andy is also survived by seven great nephews and two great nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Leona Stevenski; father and mother–in–law, Tommy and Clarinda Tomlinson; brother, Carl Stevenski; brother–in–law, Mike Nucilli; and a great nephew.

Jiggs was a graduate of Grafton High School “Class of 1950.” He worked at Zimmerman Esso in Fairmont 1951-1956, and Westinghouse in Fairmont 1956-1983 which became North American Philips where he retired in July of 1997.

Andy was very active in his church and community during his life. He served with the Monongah Volunteer fire Department from 1957-1985, where he served as Fire Chief for a time. He also served as Scout Master for the Webelos and Boy Scouts 1967-1975 in Monongah. Jiggs assisted and volunteered for the Monongah Boy’s Club Fringe Baseball and Pop Warner Football Leagues. He also coached a young men’s basketball league; and helped with the Monongah Swimming  Pool Assn. Jiggs also served as a councilman for a time early on in Monongah.

Andy loved his church in Monongah, where he attended Trinity United Methodist Church that became Trinity Independent Church of Monongah in 2009. He served as a trustee and board member for a number of years, with a joyful and loving heart. He continued on as a member when the church became the Cross of Christ Community Church in 2016.

His hobbies always include helping family and friends, and his second job was always gardening.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home 414 Gaston Ave. Fairmont, Wednesday 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Bill Preston and Pastor Karl Streyle officiating.
