Class of 1973 ties lead to the first MHS Reunion in 1922

Mike Hess keeps rolling out senior class photos for 1970s Monongah High graduation classes.

This is the Class of 1973.

One of the three graduates not in the photos is Rose Marie Mike Merrifield.

Rose Marie lives in Fairmont with husband Bill Merrifield. Her parents were Franklin and Emma Jean Mike. Franklin's mother was Rose Scudure Mike, who passed away at the age of 96 in 2014.

Rose’s husband was Dominic Mike who, with his brother, Jimmy, had a barber shop under the Monongah Bank at the center of East Monongah where I got many a haircut during my childhood in Monongah.

Rose’s siblings were Joe Scudure, Cora Scudure Mike, Anna Scudure Olds, Mary Scudure Scrivo and Virginia Scudure Richardson.

Jimmy's wife, Greta Martin Mike, Class of 1922,  founded the Monongah Alumni Association in 1922 and came up with the first Monongah High Alumni Reunion, which will have its 94th annual reunion May 27 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Mary Lou Retton Drive in Fairmont.
It was Greta, later a teacher in Worthington, who began compiling Monongah High graduation lists that I use today in putting together information on this Monongah High Alumni blog. It also was Greta who began the practice of finding out where former Lions lived and putting in their post-Monongah High addresses and marital information.
Ramona Fullen Michalski, Class of 1949, who lives in Monongah, took up the cause after Greta passed away. Ramona has been my go-to person for Monongah High information ever since, along with the 1973 North Marion Alumni Directory that includes Monongah High graduates.

Other 1973 graduates not in the senior photos are Anthony Raddish, Jr. and Donald Tulin.

Frankie Tulin was on the 1952 Monongah High team that won the first of the Lions’ five football championships.

The oldest Monongah High alumni at the 2015 Alumni Reunion was 94-year-old Mary Raddish Shuttlesworth, Class of 1940, the last survivor of eight siblings in her family.

Her sister, Helen Raddish Godhart of Idamay, after decades of operating a funeral home in Keego Harbor, Michigan, passed away in 2015 at the age of 96.
Other children of Michael Raddish and Mary Leskovich Raddish Krolich were Steven Raddish, married to Marilyn Byard Raddish, Class of 1955, and the parents of Devon, Keith “Pooch” and Mark; Mike Raddish, Class of 1933; George Raddish, Class of 1955, Tony and Steve Raddish, Andy Krolich, Anne Tucci, Mamie Shepherd and Margaret Moorehead.
Marcie Goush Raddish of Monongah and Mark Raddish of Fairmont were the parents of Brogan Raddish, who passed away from cancer – specifically Ewing's Sarcoma, which usually starts in the bone -- at the age of 14 in 2009.
Since, Brogan’s grandmother, Dietta Harden Goush, Class of 1959, sells jewelry and T-shirts to raise money for the Brogan Raddish Scholarship Fund, which is near $10,000.
Brogan’s paternal grandparents are Dave Raddish, Class of 1958, and Luanna Felton Raddish, Class of 1961, of Fairmont.
