WVU gets shot at hosting NCAA nationals

West Virginia University won’t have to go far to compete in the 2019 NCAA Rifle Championships. It will be held March 8-9 in Morgantown.

It’s the first time WVU will host the national rifle event in Morgantown.

It will save the trouble of hauling the trophy home from elsewhere since WVU has won the last five NCAA rifle titles among the 19 the Mountaineers own.

WVU won in 1983 in Cincinnati; in 1984, 1997, 1998 and 2014 in Murray, Kentucky; in 1986, 1990 and 1995 at Annapolis, Maryland, the Naval Academy; in 1988 in Lexington, Kentucky; in 1989 and 1992 in Murray, Kentucky; in 1991 at West Point, the Army Academy; in 1996 at Colorado Springs, the Air Force Academy; in 2009 in Fort Worth (TCU’s range); in 2010 and 2017 in Columbus (Ohio State’s range); in 2015 in Fairbanks (9-time champ Alaska’s range); and in 2016 in Akron (Zips’ range).
