David Gene Olson Dec 17,
1944 - Dec 9, 2016
David Gene Olson, of Monongah, went home to
his heavenly father Friday (Dec. 9, 2016) after a valiant 27-year battle with
leukemia.
David was born in Valley
City, North Dakota, on Dec. 17, 1944, to Henry and Violet Olson and grew up in
a farming family outside the small town of Marion, North Dakota.
He was a 1962 graduate
of Marion High School. Enlisting in the Army in 1963, he was assigned to the
Army Security Agency in Arlington, Virginia, where he met his loving wife, Lois
Ann McLaughlin.
After he and his family
moved to Monongah in 1968, he worked full-time while attending Fairmont State
College. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in history in 1971, then worked
in banking before taking a position with Consolidated Coal Company, where he
worked for 29 years, retiring in 2002.
David led a Christian
life and was a longtime member of Monongah Baptist Church. He was also an
active member in his community, always volunteering where help was needed. He
was a man of few words, with a kind, generous heart, putting family, faith and
others above himself and set an example of what a loving husband and father
should be.
David is survived by his
wife of 51 years, Lois Ann (McLaughlin) Olson; brother, Allen Olson and wife
Fern of Minot, North Dakota; sister, Bonnie Wieck and husband Gary of Valley
