Buckles in WW1

Of the 16.1 million who fought for America in World War II, 697,806 are alive, but 430 die every day.

The last World War I veteran to die, Frank Buckles, a Charles Town, West Virginia farmer who was born in Missouri, was 110 in 2011 when he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with President Barack Obama paying his respects.

Frank enlisted at 16 and drove ambulances for the Army in Europe.



Buckles was born in Bethany, Missouri on Feb. 1, 1901.
