Grants & rate hikes to pay for Monongah water & sewer projects

Thrasher Engineering has been hired to seek grants and other financial assistance to pay for the water project being planned in Monongah. Residents also will pay more for  water and sewer to pay for the project.

Mayor Greg Vandetta said: “We are being forced to update our system.” West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources could act on the town if Monongah doesn’t solve the problems itself.

The sewer project smoke testing revealed more than 200 problems, but some are minor repairs.  The sewer project is several months behind the water project.

Monongah Town Council approved a lease-purchase agreement for two radar guns for the two police vehicles with $1,200 from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program.

Trick-or-treat hours for Monongah will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

The next Monongah Town Council meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 at the Town Hall.
