Nick Domico, Jr. – Junior Domico when
he was growing up in the green house in Monongah next to Our Lady of Pompeii
Church – passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10 in Fairmont.
Junior founded and ran the Domico
Funeral Home on Gaston Avenue for more than a half-century, in 1987 adding a
second funeral chapel in Fairview.
The Domico Funeral Home is a family
venture.
Nick was funeral director. His wife, Ellen, is an apprentice funeral
director. Sons David and Greg are licensed funeral directors and Tom is an
apprentice funeral director. Daughters Laura (office manager) and Janet
(receptionist) also work at the funeral home.
I’ve told the story before of how
Junior and Jeanie Nagel Viglianco got into a fight because Junior said things
about me that Jeanie didn’t like, because she had a crush on me (she got
smarter later and became a Viglianco), and Junior jabbed a stick through Jeanie’s
leg.
We’ve all visited Junior’s funeral
home many times over the years. He handled arrangements for my mother, Lena
Futten Olesky, and my father, John W. Olesky, Sr., and Dave Straight, husband
of my sister, Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955.
Domico Funeral Home is as much a part of Monongah's legacy as St. Stanislaus Church and Our Lady of Pompeii. All are gone now, except in our memories.
When I check for possible obituaries
of Monongah High alumni, I start with http://domicofh.com/fh/home/home.cfm?fh_id=13672 which is the URL for Domico Funeral Home because that’s
where most of the grads wind up when they pass away in Marion County.
RIP, Junior.
If you have
memories of Junior or the Domico family, email me at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com and I’ll add them to this
Monongah High Alumni blog.
