Sunday is last day
To get in on fun day!
If you don’t call Jackie Olesky
Straight, Class of 1955, who lives in Rivesville, and show up at her house with
$20 per person and fill out the Reservations form that says you’ve had the
Covid vaccine shots, BY MIDNIGHT SUNDAY
then you are out of luck. You will not be admitted to the Monongah Town Hall
for the J&J&Lions Get-Together for the 6 p.m. dinner and nostalgic talk
and music for listening and dancing till 9 p.m.
NO ONE will be admitted without
having a Reservation and CASH ONLY in co-host Jackie’s hands before midnight
Sunday.
Call Jackie at (304)
278-7157. Jackie will direct you to her Rivesville home. She has Registration
form for you to sign. You hand over $20 per person IN CASH ONLY (too late for
checks) to Jackie and you can join the fun.
Mayor Johnboy Palmer will
draw the raffle ticket to see who gets the football autographed by Alabama
football coach Nick Saban, Class of 1959, and wife Terry Constable Saban.
The person with the
winning ticket will draw another ticket to see who gets their pick of a boxful
of items that Brother sent to me. Then that winner will draw the ticket for the
next winter. Etc. until all of the donated items are gone.
Everyone who paid $20 for
their Reservation will be one free raffle ticket as they enter the building.
Additional tickets will be $1 or 6 for $5. Every cent will go to the Monongah
High Alumni Association scholarship fund. MHS Alumni Association treasurer
Donna Davis, who will attend the event, will be handed a check to take to
scholarship fund chair Carol Spatafore.
Only those who made
Reservations in advance and paid for them will be allowed inside the Monongah
Town Hall. And only those inside the Town Hall can purchase raffle tickets for
the Saban items, including the autographed football.
Dinner will begin at 6
p.m., catered by Say-Boy Restaurant in Fairmont, where my father took me as a
teenager for my first-ever ribeye steak dinner. I will tell Say-Boy in advance
how many of each entrees were requested and pay Say-Boy in advance with my
credit card.
Coffee and ice tea and cake and pastries will
be available throughout the evening. Or at least till they are gone.
There will be music for
listening and dancing till 9 p.m. And a photo frame with 1,400 revolving photos
on it, a new photo every 10 seconds including photos taken at previous Monongah
High Alumni Banquets.
I’m bringing a 28 x 36
inch framed photo of the Monongah High Lion, a 10 x 15 foot WVU wall hanging and
there will be a speaker for the 72 songs on my iPod, including Kate Smith’s
“God Bless America,” John Denver singing “Country Roads” and “The Party’s Over.” Non-stop music for listening and dancing.
Be there or be square.
Jackie and I look forward
to seeing you there. Our Fazio cousins, Dave and Cora Fazio and Mary Chris and
Tom Ramsey, will be there, too.
