Mike McKinzie passes away

James “Mike” Michael McKinzie, 61, of Idamay, passed away on Friday, July 6.

His widow is Lena McKinzie, whose parents were Charles “Sonny” Barta and Ida “Toots” Barta.

Sonny’s sister is Monongah’s Lucy Wells.

February 15, 1957 - July 06, 2018

James “Mike” Michael McKinzie, 61, of Idamay, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston as a result of a motorcycle accident.  He was born February 15, 1957 in Chattanooga, TN, a son of the late Margie Anderson.


Mike was retired from Dominion Hope Gas, having been employed as a supervisor. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and motorcycle riding with his friends on his Harley. He never knew a stranger and helped and gave to anyone in need. He was a hard worker and grew a garden. He had the biggest heart of anybody we knew. He was a loving husband, father, pappy, uncle, and friend.


Survivors include his wife: Lena Barta McKinzie; 4 children: James “Mikie” (Katrina) McKinzie, Jr., Daniel “Danny” McKinzie, Misty (Shay) Mace, and Gena McKinzie (Michael “Mike”) Runner; grandchildren: Briana, Lacey, Travis, Carter, Dylan, Dakota ,Lucas, Gavin, and Payton; mother-in-law: Pat Mains; brothers and sisters: Sherry (Rick) Dennsian, Debra Lear, Candy Miller, Melinda Martin, Roger (Wendy) Anderson, Tommy (Crystal) Anderson; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews.


In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmother: Mary Carpenter, father-in-law: Sonny Barta, a sister: Vicky Wolf and sister-in-law: Dorothy Hamrick.


Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 3171 Husky Highway on Tuesday, July 10 from 5-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating.
