West Virginians hit with perpetual telemarketing phone calls

West Virginians are being inundated with hundreds of phone calls a day from the SAME telemarketer, claiming to be a credit card company.

If you press “9,” then the harassers ask for your credit card information. Wonder what they would do with that? Right!

The calls appear to come from hundreds of different West Virginia numbers, which is meaningless because someone from Nigerian can make that happen. When those who hit “9” ask to be removed from the call list, they are met with cursing and yelling.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey’s advice: If you don’t recognize the number, don’t answer the phone. Once you answer, even if you hang up, the telemarketing computer marks your cellphone as “active” and calls it repeatedly.

AT&T, aware of the non-stop telemarketing calls, suggests: “File a complaint with the FCC.”

Paula and I use our home phone to screen telemarketers. Caller ID tells us whether to answer our cellphone.

Simple solution: Don’t answer your phone. Those who want to talk to you will leave a message and you can call them back.

That’s the only way to stop the bastards from bothering you.

What about YOU? Have you been experiencing telemarketing non-stop harassment. Either click on “Comment” below or email John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com with the details. As always, no anonymous complaints. If it’s worth discussing, it’s worth putting your name on it.
