Bob Kasper, Class of 1950, who lives
in South Lyon and Presque Isle (Grand Lake), Michigan, made his annual visit to
John Olesky, Class of 1950, who lives in Tallmadge, Ohio, on Thursday, Oct. 8
through Sunday, Oct. 11.
As usual, they had dinner with John’s
family in a Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio restaurant, played golf at Cuyahoga Falls’
Brookledge Country Club (as usual, Bob had low score, by 7 strokes this time)
and watched WVU play Oklahoma State in Mountaineer Field (the Mountaineers lost
in overtime, 33-26, to top 25 Cowboys but did overcome a 15-point halftime
deficit).
The Falls dinner was attended by Bob,
the guest of honor, John’s daughter LaQuita Olesky Timberlake of Aurora, Ohio and
her husband, Tom, and their son, Dr. Dylan Timberlake, and John’s other
daughter, Monnie Ann Olesky Johnston of Brunswick, Ohio.
And, while dining at Longhorn
Steakhouse in Morgantown, Bob and John had a reunion with Alice Baggott
Collins, who was Bob’s neighbor in Michigan and John’s classmate at WVU School
of Journalism. And John’s sister, Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955, who
lives in Rivesville, and her daughter, Renee Straight, a WVU Ruby Memorial
Hospital pharmacist.
Once they got into Mountaineer Field,
Bob and John has another reunion, with Tony Eates, Class of 1950, who lives in
Fairmont with wife Lucy Cann Eates. As usual, John and Bob sat with Jackie and
Renee, in Section 105.
Other than WVU losing, it was the
usual great get-together on so many layers.
Every autumn, John visits Bob at his
Grand Lake summer home where they play golf (and Bob shoots a lower score) and
just enjoy each other’s company. When you’re been best friends for 78 years,
going back to first grade at Sts. Peter and Paul School in Monongah, that’s what
you do.
At least, till one or both of us
takes the Big Dirt Nap.
