Lora Belle Jones passes away

Lora Belle Jones of Monongah, mother of John Paul Jones of Monongah, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Lora’s obituary:

Lora Belle Jones, 85, of Monongah, passed peacefully from this life Tuesday (Oct. 20, 2015) in her home under Hospice Care.

She was born June 4, 1930 in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Rev. Golden A. and Fairy Ruth Freeland Cooper.

A very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she really enjoyed doing for and spending time with all her family.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, going to yard sales and thrift stores, watching comedy programs and especially Christian television shows. She was a member of Norway Church of Christ. She had worked in a variety of department stores in the area, the last one being the Fairmont Sam’s Club.

Ms. Jones is survived by her companion of more than 40 years, Gary Hayes; five children, Sharon Carey of Shinnston, Marvin C. “Buckey” Hayes and Lillian Jones of Harmony Grove, Kenneth D. Jones Jr. and Rose of Barrackville, Eva Hayes of Katy, and John Paul Jones of Monongah; five brothers, Gary Cooper of Ohio, Harold and Betty Cooper of Kentucky, Golden Cooper Jr. and Betty of Kansas, Richard and Kathy Cooper of Virginia, and Robert Cooper of Shinnston; seven sisters, Fairy Millbraugh of Ohio, Roberta and Ronald Parrack of Ohio, Susan and Jeff Moffett of California, Sandy and Bill McCaskill of Florida, Bonnie Garrett of Shinnston, Eva Cooper of Pennsylvania and Annette Ramsey of Fairmont; 12 grandchildren, Troy, Scott, Kelly, BJ, Mark, Heather, Summer, Derek, Christina, Adam, Carrie and Misty; six great-grandchildren, Mary, Dillon, Christian, Wyatt, Cooper and Conner; and two great-great grandchildren, Ella and Zander.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Irwin Jones; her former husband, Kenneth D. Jones; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Dickey, and Marvin Cooper and Mary Cooper; two brothers-in-law, Tom Millbraught and Jerry Garrett; and an infant sister.

Lora’s family has requested that memorial contributions to the funeral home at P.O. Box 895, Fairmont, WV 26555.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Frey Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison Street, Fairmont. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. today in the funeral home with Evangelist Richard Vanhorn officiating. Internment will follow at Grove Cemetery.
