Monongah Christmas street lights
meeting Tuesday
Monongah High grad Susan Staron Sanders,
living in Monongah with husband Ron Sanders, is continuing her campaign to have
Christmas lights brightening up Monongah’s streets for the holidays.
She’s having a meeting at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 20 in the Town Hall to discuss costs and strategy. Whitehall
donated seven of its old Christmas lights to the town. Susan is trying to raise
$400 for brackets to put up the lights.
Susan, an administrative assistant at
Personnel, wrote:
“All of you that
have replied to me about fundraising I pray you can come. You had some great
ideas. I have had offers for donations already and everyone is thrilled we’re
putting the lights up. Some people have already contacted me that they will be
there so please be sure and come if possible. Thank you so much.”
Ron is a Vietnam veteran. Susan’s
brother Bob Staron, Class of 1967 (deceased), fought in Vietnam.
Susan grew up with Becky Urish
Anderson, who today lives in Clarksburg, and went to Monongah High with Becky.
They are both Class of 1971, the same as one of Monongah’s famous traveling
sisters, Susan Ahouse Schrader (who vies with Mary “Kitty” Ahouse Morrison to
see who can rack up the most travel miles; it’s a close, amazing race).
One of Susan and Ron’s children,
Tommy Sanders, is a WVU senior majoring in computer engineering. Smart kid.
Other Starons at Monongah High include Diane Minardi Staron, Class of 1967; Dorothy Staron Saunders, Class of 1971; and Thomas Staron, Class of 1965.
