Dee Cicero Bonasso passes away

Virginia Anne “Dee” Cicero Bonasso, widow of Jack Ignatius Bonasso, Sr. passed away Friday, May 11.

Her children are Robert Bonasso, Class of 1971, married to Diane; Annette Bonasso Ellyson, 1980 North Marion grad after 3 years at Monongah High before it consolidated into North Marion, who lives with husband Jeff in Carolina and is the author of “Eat, Scream and Be Merry,” about life in an Italian family, and “Max the Zany Dog”; the late Danny Bonasso, Class of 1975, whose widow is Janice Bonasso of Carolina; Jack Bonasso, Jr. of Florida; Linda Jones, who lives with husband Charles in Morgantown; Jo Ann Bonasso Rengers of Morgantown; and Maria Bonassoa Bluestone, who lives in Pittsburgh with husband Jim.

The late Connie Bonasso Rogers, Class of 1948, daughter of Antonio Bonasso and Clara Julian Bonasso, was a cousin to Annette through Antonio. Connie married Darrell Rogers, the late Monongah High football quarterback who lived on Cottage Avenue. Connie’s son, Scott Rogers, lives in Charleston with wife Doris Carpenter Rogers, Class of 1971. Connie’s daughter, Toni Rogers Mills, lives in Shinnston with husband Dennis Mills.

Bonassos have been Monongah High students since Pete Bonasso, Class of 1943; Lucille Bonasso Fuller, Class of 1945; Nathale Bonasso, Class of 1957; and Annette Bonasso Ellyson, who was at Monongah High in 1979 when its doors closed for the final time after a run that began in 1918 when William Fay Holbert, Robert Jones and Dr. Stanley Skarr were its first graduates.

Virginia A. “Dee” (Cicero) Bonasso, age 92, of Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018, leaving many family, friends, and loved ones to cherish her memory.

Wife of 68 years to the late Jack Bonasso; mother of seven children, Jack, Linda (Charles) Jones, JoAnn Rengers, Robert (Diane), Daniel (Janice), Annette (Jeff) Ellyson, and Maria (James) Bluestone; grandchildren Jennifer (Dave) Pulice, Amy (Scott) Tingler, Francis (Rachel) Rengers, Danielle (Ron) Sparks, Josiah (Katie) Rengers, Emily (Israel) Rengers, Robert (Grazia) Bonasso, Jr., Corey (Eva) Bonasso, Laura (Josef) Bonasso, Rachel Ellyson, Leah Ellyson, Dane Bluestone, and Elyse Bluestone; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Galasso.

Dee will be remembered for keeping an eternally young and giving heart. She loved and encouraged a large, multigenerational circle of family and friends, and fed everyone who came to her “house above the store.”

Dee was born November 4, 1925, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and relocated to Carolina in 1946. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Lopez.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue, in Fairmont, on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
