Arlene Edgell’s son passes away

Jack Decker, son of Arlene Marteney Decker Edgell, Class of 1951, passed away Sunday, November 27.

Arlene, the girl from Watson during her Monongah High days, was married to Jack’s father, Eugene Decker, before she wed Okla Edgell, Class of 1944, the boy from Harter Hill.

Actually, Okla proposed to Arlene in 1950 but she was too young. So they went their separate ways, Okla to being a war hero and then worked for the government on dams out West. In 2006, Okla proposed again and Arlene said yes and they were wed.

It took 56 years, but Okla is a persistent guy.

Hip replacement for Nene Pritchard Moore

Jane “Nene” Pritchard Moore, Class of 1975, will have hip replacement surgery on Tuesday, November 29. Physical and water therapy just didn’t eliminate the pain.

She worked for “the last time for a while” on Saturday as an LPN at Pediatrics Associates.

Her sisters are Jonna Pritchard Barnett, 1980 North Marion grad, and Beth Pritchard Brooks, Class of 1978, who lives on Harter Hill in Worthington when she doesn’t join husband Rick Brooks in his conveyor system projects around the country.

Their parents are John Pritchard and Mary Jane McDaniel Pritchard, daughter of the famous Ted McDaniel, Monongah Streetcar Stationmaster.

Nene is a three-time cancer survivor.
Monongah High’s December birthdays make a wide swath, from the Class of 1948 with Otis “Sarge” Shaver to the Class of 1980 (I know, North Marion High, but they started at Monongah High) with Jay Michalski and Adam Michna, my helpmate for Monongah history information and photos.

The montage includes then & now photos of Mareia Wilmouth McDougal, Class of 1964; Paulette Colanero O’Connor, Class of 1966; Barbara Sweede, Class of 1956; Duane Harbert, Class of 1951; and Sarge Shaver.

Mareia was the Monongah High Homecoming court princess who married her Homecoming parade chaffeur, Earl McDougal, Class of 1963.

Duane lives in Marlton, New Jersey with wife Mary. His father, Frank Harbert, was the Thoburn School principal.

Paulette lives in Manassas, Virginia, where The Battle of Bull Run, the first land battle of America’s Civil War, was fought in 1861.

Barbara Sweede still lives in Monongah. Her sister, Dolores Sweede Matkovich, Class of 1953, resides in Palm Harbor, Florida with husband John Matkovich, Class of 1948.

Sarge also still lives in Monongah.

Others in the montage include Adam Michna, son of Adam Michna, whose sisters were Sisters with Auxiliaries of the Apostolate -- Sister Rose and Sister Dolores of the Sts. Peter and Paul School nuns.

Jay Michalski is a son of Ramona Fullen Michalski, Class of 1949, my “Monongah bureau chief” for this blog, and the late Frank Michalski, in the same class with Ramona.

Chris Shamrock Henning, the youngest of the seven Shamrock children, lives in Abilene, Texas with husband Charles Henning, a retired college professor.

Bill Cameon, Class of 1960, lives in Highland, Utah. Clyde and Maggie Cameon’s other children include Virginia Cameon Mezzanotte, Nathaleen Cameon Oliverio, Class of 1948, of East Chicago, Illinois; Pete Cameon, Class of 1958, of Clarksburg; Linda Cameon, Class of 1966, of Carolina; and, all deceased, Arthur Cameon, Joe Cameon and Rudy Cameon.

Francis Wimer Miller, Class of 1951, lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with husband Ken Miller.

If your name is not on this list, email John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com  with your full name, including maiden name, your birthday date, your graduation year and your current hometown.
