Monongah native Glenn Henderson passes away

Glenn Henderson, of Fairmont, WV passed away Thursday September 10, 2015 on his 92nd birthday. He was born September 10, 1923 in Monongah, WV, son of the late David and Louie Belle (Yost) Henderson.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Martha Henderson; eight children, Johnny Glenn Henderson of Fairmont, Sharon Ann Husty and husband Joe of Fairmont, Charlotte Jean Layman and husband Curtis of Richmond, TX, Marsha Kim Hudkins and husband Scott of Fairmont, Thomas Bruce Henderson and wife Barbara of Worthington, Kathy Denise Henderson of Fairmont, Glenna Ann Henderson of Hutchinson, and Dee Ella Wallace of Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Johna Henderson, Thomas Henderson, Tina Gill, Terry Gill, Holly Hudkins, Danielle Jones and husband Ronnie, Loran Lowdermilk and husband Chris, Jennifer Toler and husband Casey, Ian Rogers and wife Sarah, Kayla Stemple and husband J.J., Talan Wallace and Lexa Wallace; seven great-grandchildren, Eric Everhart, Ana Everhart, Jade Quesada, Jordan Henderson, Jaylynn Stemple, Isabella Toler, and Eden Rose Lowdermilk; one great-great grandchild, Aubriana Lee Everhart; two sisters, Gladys Henderson and Juanita Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Lora and wife Georgia, James, Chester and wife Wilma, Festus and wife Auna, Phyllis “Pudgie”, Wilbur, Guy and wife Wanda, and Doris Henderson.

 

Glenn joined the Civilian Conservation Corp before completing high school and then enlisted in the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he sought work as a carpenter and coal miner but found his talent and passion as a brick mason, operating his own company 50+ years with his brother Guy, and his sons. He worked on many regional masonry landmarks and numerous residential projects. Glenn’s specialty was in creating unique fireplaces. During his life, he took pride in helping his children, siblings, nieces and nephews with multiple masonry projects. At the age of 81, he was awarded his high school diploma by the state of West Virginia. In his early days, Glenn was known for his exploits on his many Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

 

He was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God and served on many missions to Central and South America through his church.

 

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 11 to noon Monday. The funeral service will be held at noon Monday Sept. 14, in the funeral home with Pastor Ray Crabtree and Gene Day officiating. Interment will follow at Parish Run Cemetery with full military rights being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
