Cody Morgan, 27, passes away

Cody Morgan, who birth parents are Teresa Cole and Tom Morgan, passed away Thursday, March 28.

His grandparents are Loretta Bienkoski Domico, Ruth Ann Morgan and another Tom Morgan.

Loretta’s siblings are Wanda Bienkoski Allowatt of Parkersburg and Pauline Bienkoski Koscoe of Florida and, all deceased, Mary Ann Bienkoski Domico, Edward Bienkoski, Lucy Bienkoski Goldsberry, Ann Bienkoski Plachta and Irene Bienkoski Plachta.

Cody Morgan, 27, of Monongah WV passed away Thursday March 28, 2019 due to heart complications. Cody was born January 31st, 1992 in Austin, Texas.

He is survived by his two beautiful daughters Kyndal, age 4, Kynnedy Morgan, age 16 months, and their mother Courtney. He was a loving son to his mother Teresa Cole and stepfather Todd Cole, his father Tom Morgan and stepmother Alicia Morgan, his two sisters Halle Cole and Brittany Monell. Also, by his maternal grandmother Loretta Domico and paternal grandparents Ruth Ann and Tom Morgan.

Cody was a graduate of North Marion High School where he excelled at sports. He was a coal miner by trade and was a loving father to his two little girls. They enjoyed playing, swimming, snuggling and taking golf cart rides together. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, being outdoors
and spending time with his friends and family.

Those that knew him saw that he had a smile that would light up a room, a heart of gold and a laugh that would make you smile. His presence altered a room.

We seek comfort in these words knowing where our Son is. So much of him in seen in his girls. His spirit, laughter, and love lives on through them.

Parents hold their child's hand for a moment and their heart for a lifetime, you were so loved and will be deeply missed.

Mary Harbert passes away

Mary Donham Harbert, wife of Duane Harbert, Class of 1951, passed away Tuesday, March 19. They live in Marlton, New Jersey.

Duane said an October urinary tract infection was the final problem leading to her passing away.

Duane – who goes by his first name, Donald, when he’s not around former Lions – and Mary’s son Tom Harbert passed away in 2014.

Duane’s mother, Goldie, Tom’s taught at Worthington Grade School. His father, Frank Harbert, was principal of Thoburn Elementary in Monongah.

Duane’s brother, John Harbert, Class of 1955, and his wife, Karen Colvin, also class of 1955, are deceased.

Siblings Ted, Farrell, Bill, Gerald, Paul, Phil and Eva Harbert are Duane's cousins. The children of Agnes Wood and Griff Harbert, who was Duane's dad's brother, were Monongah High graduates in the 1940s and 1950s.

Duane was part of another family during his Monongah High days, when he lived in Worthington. I facetiously called us The Gang That Terrorized Marion County. We would gather nightly, either at the bus stop between the Tropea Grocery and Carlot’s Grill, or jumping into a car driven by Frank Franze, Class of 1950, who today lives in Slidell, Louisiana, which was owned by Frank’s father.

Others in the gang were the late Lawrence “Sonny” Godby, Lawrence and Regina Boone Godby’s son and the late Jackie Godby Lusczynski’s brother; Steven “Bucky” Satterfield, who lives in St. Albans after retiring from a long career as a West Virginia Highway Patrolman; Anthony “Tony” Eates, who is retired and living in Fairmont with wife Lucy; Robert “Satch” Kasper, who had a successful career sitting at the bargaining table for Ford Motor Company before retiring to his homes in South Lyon and Grand Lake (Presque Isle), Michigan; Donald “Jake” Halpenny, clarinetist supreme for United Mine Workers and Vingle bands, living in Fairmont; the late Joe Manzo, who survived the Korean war; the late Tom “Judge” Starcher, who began his prowling in Carolina; and me, the runt of the litter, who was the last one to jump into the Franze vehicles when it barely stopped moving as it went by our Church Street home and onto the latest adventures, which included Coal Hole swimming, skinny-dipping in the river with a gallon jug of draft beer and stolen watermelons and sneaking all but two of us into the drive-ins so that we’d have more money for beer.

 

 

And swimming at Fairmont Field Club at 3 a.m., until the cops showed up and we wound up in the Consol Coal office in Fairmont for a Getting Straight lecture in front of our parents.

Mary Elizabeth Harbert (nee Donham), age 83, of Marlton, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.  Beloved wife of Donald Harbert.  Loving mother of James Harbert (Diane), David Harbert (Margie), and the late Tom Harbert (Cindy).  Proud grandmother of Megan, Evan, Rebecca, Ashley, and Adam.  Sister of the late James Donald Donham.  She is also survived and will be sadly missed by her dear friend Sandy Piontkowski.

 

Mary was born in Fairmont, WV and resided in Western Pennsylvania before moving to Marlton, NJ in 1984.  She worked as a dental hygienist for several different dental offices over the years.  Mary was a dedicated member of the Atco United Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon and part of the Women’s Association.  In her free time, she loved being outside camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and playing tennis with her husband.  She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, as well as working with stained glass.

 

A visitation will be held on Saturday April 6, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at the Atco United Presbyterian Church, 2259 Atco Ave., Atco, NJ, where a memorial service will begin at 2:30 pm.  Cremation will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Atco Presbyterian Church at the above address.  Condolences may be shared at www.lpwoosterfuneralhome.com .

 

 

 

Thea Madden Pierce passes away

Thea Beth Madden Pierce, Class of 1972, passed away Wednesday, March 13.

She was a Monongah resident.

Thea Beth Pierce, 64, of Monongah, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. She was born in Fairmont on May 2, 1954, a daughter of the late Richard Madden and Lillian Irene (Riggs) Madden.

Thea graduated from Monongah High School in 1972. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She worked as a housekeeper, enjoyed being outside, family get togethers. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her children her daughters, Earlene Lovern Pyles, of Fairmont, and Megan Madden, of Carolina; her son, Joshua Pierce, of Fairmont; six very special grandchildren: Joseph, Kenna, Shyla, Trevelyn, Cali and Abby; and a close friend, Danette Shorter, of Wisconsin.

In addition to her parents, Thea was preceded in death by her brother, George Madden, and her sister, Marlene Stone.

In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, her body has been donated to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 

Ken Shaver passes away

Kenneth Ray Shaver, 74, of Monongah passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019. He was born July 1, 1944, son of the late Arlie Shaver and Eva Davis Shaver.

Kenneth graduated from Monongah High School and retired from the Middletown Mall He was also previously employed by Owens Illinois. He was a member of the Monongah Baptist Church. Kenneth was an avid WVU and Steelers fan and enjoyed watching sports, sitting on his porch, camping, fishing, and traveling to Myrtle Beach.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mitzi Shaver; children, Carolyn Sue Fletcher and her husband Kevin of Fairmont, Ronald Ray Shaver and his wife Jenny Ann of Monongah, and James Arlie Shaver and his wife Christina of Monongah; grandchildren, Mariah Braxton Hoit, Alexandria Dawn Shaver, and Katelyn Sue Fletcher; step grandchildren Kenneth Ray Shaver, 74, of Monongah passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Kathy Williamson Hamrick Class of 1978 passes away

Kathy Lynn Hamrick, 59, of Shinnston, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019. She was born March 6, 1960, daughter of the late Douglas Williamson and Ruth Hall Williamson.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Jessica Lynn Liller and her husband Aaron of St. Albans; sons, Bobby and Ricky Hamrick; grandchildren, Gage and Ariyah Liller; several other grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cindy Hamrick; and cousins, Danny and Betty Whitt and Lee Whitt of Whitfield, VA.

Marjorie Fluharty Robinson passes away

Marjorie Fluharty Robinson, 93, passed away in Lakeland, Florida, Jim McDaniel reports.

Her son, Barry McIntyre, was her caretaker for years.

Marjorie lived in Worthington during her Monongah High days.

Majorie and Jim’s sister, Mary Jane, Class of 1942, were best friends.

MARJORIE 'MARGIE' ANN ROBINSON, 93

LAKELAND - Ms. Marjorie Ann Robinson, our earthly angel, 93, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 surrounded by her five-generation family. She left this earthly home to be welcomed in heaven by her Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ.
Margie was born August 20, 1925, in Worthington, WV and moved to Lakeland to be near family where she resided for 45 years. Margie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. Margie was a member of Highland Park Church in Lakeland, FL, where she enjoyed spending time with her Sunday School friends. She never met a stranger and loved to make people laugh with her stories and sense of humor.
Margie was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda L. Stone. She is survived by her son, Barry McIntire; grandson Jeffrey (Karen) Stone; brother, Andrew Fluharty; grandchildren, Ashley (Cori) and Austin (Shannon); great grandchildren, Olivia, Carter, Summer, Lynn, and Saylor, all of Lakeland, FL.

Joe Joy passes away

Joe Joy, Class of 1957, passed away. His widow is Victoria Seccuro Joy of Monongah.

Siblings are Bob Joy, Class of 1956, was a guard on the 1955 Monongah High football team that won the state championship; John Joy, Class of 1960; and Bill Joy, Class of 1964, all deceased. Brother Raymond Joy lives in Monongah.

Joseph Carmen “Joe” Joy, Jr., 80, of Monongah, passed away at United Hospital Center on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. He was born in Monongah, WV on January 19, 1939. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Falcone) Joy.

He was a talented wine maker and craftsman having spent many years building his family home, making wine, and putting his many talents to use.
