KATHERN HERNDON LOSS, IN HER 90s, WILL BE AT JULY 17 J&J&LIONS GET-TOGETHER

Kathern Herndon Loss, Class of 1942, will be attending the J&J&Lions Get-Together July 17 in the Monongah Town Hall. I think she’s 95 or 96 years old!

I received her registration today along with that of Roseann Loss Orwig, Class of 1969. Kathern and Roseann also attended the MHS Reunion in 2017 and 2014.

Kathren is the widow of Bernard Loss, whose  siblings were Lucille Loss Blocker, wife of Richard Blocker; Rosemary Loss Hartman of Phoenix, Arizona; Mildred “Jean” Loss Carlot, who with husband Julie ran Carlot’s Grill across the street from Monongah High for decades; and Don Loss.

Kathern, then 93, was the oldest alumni to show up at the 2018 Monongah High Alumni Reunion. She was laughing and having fun with Tom Colanero, Class of 1968, who married Julie Khuri Colanero, and JoAnn Fleming Chipps, Class of 1958.

Tom’s siblings are the late Phil Joseph Colanero, Jr., Class of 1963, who lived in Morgantown with Betty Hanlin; and Paulette Colanero O’Connor, Class of 1966.

Tom played both offense and defense for the Monongah High team that won the 1966 Mason-Dixon football championship. Also on that team were Danny Colanero, who lives in North Carolina with wife Linda, and Nick Saban, Alabama football coach, who quarterbacked the Lions to the 1968 state title.

Paulette was on Coach Gene Kendzior’s 1960 Monongah girls softball team that won the Marion County title.

Paulette is manager of the Prince William Hospital gift shop in Manassas, Virginia, where she lives with her husband, John O’Connor.

Elizabeth Colanero was the mother of Tom, Paulette and Phil.

The deadline for the reservations IN MY HANDS is July 26. I’ll be turning over the dinner requests of everyone who submits a reservation so that Say-Boy will know how many of each type of dinner to deliver hot and ready to eat at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at the Monongah Town Hall. Music will be provided from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. Hopefully by the time I pay Say-Boy in advance for the dinners, the Town Hall usage fee, desserts that will be rounded up by Monongah Councilwoman Susan Staron Sanders, Class of 1971, that will cover the $20 per. If not, I'm willing to eat the difference. If there's money left over I'll write out a check to the Monongah High Alumni Association for its college scholarship fund.

Copy, paste and print the reservations form you see at the top of this blog and mail to:

John Olesky

217 N Thomas Road

Tallmadge, OH 44278-1776

IInclude full names of everyone in the reservation, including maiden names, and year of graduation IF you attended Monongah High, and the phone number of at least one person named in the reservation. And, of course, the mail address of the person who would be reimbursed in the unlikely event that the get-together is canceled.

If you have questions, call me at (330) 388-4466 and I’ll do my best to answer them.

How about it? Are you going to let a 95-year-old Lion spring into action without you joining the get-together?

It’s a chance to have fun with family, friends and Lions who have had their COVID vaccines.

I look forward to your registration.

A reminder to avoid ANY confusion:

This is NOT – I repeat, NOT -- the annual Monongah High Alumni banquet but a John Olesky attempt to get family and classmates together during the summer as a break from the COVID restrictions.

The annual Monongah High Alumni Banquet will be on Labor Day weekend at the Knights of Columbus in Fairmont. If you have any questions call Donna Davis at 304-534-5636. Her address is:
