Former
Monongah Town Councilman Sanford Carr passed away Wednesday, August 12.
He
had eight heart attacks in the past decade.
Wife Linda-Nobel Carr, Class of 1967,
revealed the sad news on Facebook.
Her post:
“Just
wanted to let everyone that my love Sanford Carr passed away at 2:09 am. He
fought so hard for life, but I guess God had a different plan for him. I don't
know how I'm going to make it without him. I want to thank everyone for all of
the thoughts and prayers for him and our family. He will be greatly missed.”
Sanford had been married for almost a
half-century to Linda.
Their children and spouses are 1989
North Marion grad Tonia Carr Posten & Bill
Posten, also a North Marion grad, and Bryan Carr & Amie Carr, all
living in Monongah. Their grandchildren are Tyler Carr, Teala Jesseman and her husband David, Patrick
Carr, Gabriel Carr, Peyton Taylor and Raquel Taylor.
Tonia
and Bill have been married 21 years. Bill is in Mobile maintenance at First Energy and Tonia works in the Monongah
Water Office. They live in Monongah.
Sanford’s
obituary:
Sanford Austin Carr, 70, of Monongah, went home to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, August 12, 2020. He was born June 8, 1950, a son of the late Sanford
Carr and Alice Daisy Sheppard.
He was a Marine who served in Vietnam and fought Agent Orange. He was employed
by Westinghouse, at Grant Town Mine as a Boss, for 18 years at Martinka Mines,
and the VA Hospital. He also owned Carrs Construction. He was a member of the
VFW #629, The American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Scottish
Rite of Free Masonry 32nd Degree. He was also a Councilmember of the
town of Monongah.
Sanford was Lutheran by faith. He enjoyed volunteering and helping others,
woodwork, and drinking coffee with his friends in the coffee shop in his
garage. He was a wonderful dad and grandpa and loving husband who loved
spending time with his family and friends.
Sanford is survived by his wife, Linda Carr; his children, Tonia Posten and
her husband Bill of Monongah and Bryan Carr and his wife Mariah of Monongah;
his grandchildren, Tyler Carr, Teala Jesseman and her husband David, Patrick
Carr, Gabriel Carr, Peyton Taylor, and Raquel Taylor; great granddaughter,
Roselin Jesseman; a brother, Ronnie Carr and his wife Karen of Fairmont; a
sister, Debbie Mays and her husband Jim of Fairmont; a cousin Dordie Sheppard;
a brother-in-law, Charlie Parker; sisters-in-law, Nancy Dorden and her husband
Tom, Jackie Price and her husband Gary and Terry Miconi; friends, Danny DeNoon,
Rick Sypult, John Palmer, and Marlene Poston; an aunt, Maxine Sheppard; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sanford was preceded in death by his grandson,
Noah Carr; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Knobel;
stepmother-in-law, Lorraine Knobel; sister-in-law, Blenda Parker; and brother-in-law,
Robert Knobel.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue
in Fairmont, on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The
funeral will be on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Matt
Holbert officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park and
Mausoleum. While the family appreciates the absolute outpouring of sympathy and
support for their loss, they also understand and that there are those who are
not comfortable attending public services at this time and we know that they
will celebrate Sanford’s rich life in their own personal way. For those
