Harold Dean Kniceley, Class of 1960, of Centreville, Maryland, passed away Friday, July 31. He lived in Carolina when he was born and grew up in Worthington, where he first attended school there in seventh grade.
Fairmont State graduate Harold was a fine arts teacher in Queen
Anne’s County, Maryland. Harold
and the former Sandra Kay Miller have been married for more than a
half-century.
Harold and Sandy met at Fairmont State and became schoolteachers
and married.
Their daughters are Jennifer and Dawn.
Marsha
Jean Kniceley, Class of 1963, who lives in Pinehurst, North Carolina, attended
the Monongah High Alumni Reunion in 2010 and is Harold's second cousin.
So is Sylvia Hulderman Edwards, Class of 1967, who married Ed Edwards and
whose mother was Harold’s first cousin.
Bertha
Kniceley Davies, Class of 1960, another cousin who lived in College Park,
Maryland, is a paralegal.
Another cousin is Barbara Basnett Cain, who would have
been in the Class of 1956 if she hadn’t left Monongah High and Worthington
during her sophomore year. Barb moved from Ohio back to Monongah in 1970. Her father
was Paul Basnett, who drove both a school bus and a mine bus.
The late, great Monongah High athlete, Tom Hulderman, also was Harold’s cousin.
Harold
learned to play baseball in the summer from legendary Mannington High football
and baseball coach Cassie Ryan.
A few
years back he was declared cancer-free from the lymphoma in his right lung.
