Tom Shelosky, Class of 1958, and Phyllis
Shelosky celebrated their FIFTY NINTH (!!!) wedding anniversary Wednesday,
July 8.
Tom’s sister, Becky Shelosky Carvillano,
Class of 1961, who lives in Fairmont, posted:
“They met in Kingmont, worked at City
National Bank and Martinka mines and moved to Alabama when Martinka closed.
They lived in Monongah on Saint Barbara’s Road,” which is parallel to Willow
Road off U.S. 19 before you get to Swisher Hill when you are driving south toward
Worthington.
Tom and Phyllis have 5 children, 8
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Stanley
Thomas Shelosky is a son of Julia Lazorick Shelosky and Stanley “Strob”
Shelosky, the late superb golfer at Green Hills who built up his body by laying
bricks and cinder blocks for home foundations.
Julia
passed away in 2013, Strob in 1993. George Shelosky, Class of 1932, was Strob’s
brother.
Tom and Phyllis’ children are Sts. Peter and Paul School
and 1982 North Marion High grad Monica Shelosky Cochran, Greg Shelosky, Brenda Shelosky Myers, Brian Shelosky and Jeff
Shelosky.
Tom’s siblings are Becky Shelosky
Carvillano, Class of 1961, who lives in Fairmont; Barbara Shelosky Willis, Class of 1968, who is married and living in San
Diego, California, and the late Bernie Shelosky, Class of 1965, who passed away
in 2013.
o
Barbara worked summers
in Wildwood, New Jersey while she was a WVU speech-language pathology and audiology student. She was a speech language pathologist at San
Diego Unified School District in
California from 1985 to 2011.
John Koloskie, Jr., Class of 1944, and
Bernie Shelosky were born on same day. Junior married the late Julia Monell Koloskie, also Class of 1944.
Bernie’s widow, Linda Mazza Shelosky, who
still lives in Monongah, and her brother, Larry Mazza of Fairmont, once
operated Mazza’s restaurant, a fixture on Alta Vista Avenue for Fairmont East
students that Linda’s father, Jimmy Mazza, opened in 1948.
Larry ran it from 1973-1993
when it closed because students weren’t allowed to leave the Fairmont East
campus and had to eat in the school cafeteria. Mazza’s reopened in 2013 and
closed again later.
Larry has a condo in Boca Raton, Florida,
where his son, Rocky Mazza, lives.
Linda’s brother, Rick Mazza, was on the
football coaching staff at Monongah High for the 1973 state football
championship and had a successful high school coaching career in North
Carolina.
Niece Andrea Shelosky moved from Monongah to
San Diego, where Barbara Shelosky Willis lives.
Bob Kasper, Class of 1950, who lives in South Lyon, Michigan with a
summer home on Grand Lake in Presque Isle, Michigan, remembers the Shelosky
family living near the Kaspers in the Frogtown section of Monongah, just before
Swisher Hill and U.S. 19. Next to his grandmother's house.
