today for Arnold “J.B.” Loss, Class of 1947
They had a memorial service today for
Arnold “J.B.” Loss, Class of 1947, who passed away Jan. 7. Unfortunately, my
computer in computer hospital so I didn’t post this in time to let everyone know
who might have showed up.
Arnold’s widow is Suzanne Barr Loss, Class of 1948. Their son,
David Loss, lives on the Loss property once owned by Frank Loss, brother of
Arnold’s father, J.B. Loss. Their son, Mike, who attended school in Fairmont,
lives on Harter Hill.
Arnold’s sisters are Lucille Loss Blocker, who lives with
husband Richard Blocker in Monongah, and Rosemary Loss Hartman of Phoenix,
Arizona.
Predeceasing him was his sister, Mildred “Jean” Loss Carlot, who
with husband Julie ran Carlot’s Grill across the street from Monongah High for
decades; brothers Bernard (his widow, Kathryn, lives in Monongah) and brother
Don; and Arnold & Suzanne’s son, Elliott Barr Loss.

11:00 am at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery, Celebration
to follow at 1:00pm at Loss home on Mill Fall). Friends, neighbors and
family stop on by, please bring a lawn chair. Anyone

He
was born June 16, 1929 in Monongah, WV, the youngest son of the late John “JB”
and Josephine (Deiling) Loss.
He
attended Catholic school and graduated from Monongah High School in 1947. He
began working for the B&O Railroad at the age of 15, as a track builder.
After high school, he was hired as a brakeman and retired after 43 years as a
conductor for the Chessie System (CSX).
JB
was a master gardener and loved nature. He was a dog lover and raised beagles
in his early years. He also enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting, and followed
WVU Sports.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son Elliot Barr
Loss; his brothers, Bernard (Kathryn) and Don; and a sister Mildred “Gene”
Carlot.
He
is survived by his wife of 65 years, Suzanne Barr Loss; sons, Michael and his
companion Susie Jett of Harter Hill, David Loss and his wife Mary of Mill Fall;
granddaughters, Andie Moxley of Fairmont, and Veronica “Ronnie” Loss of
Charleston, WV; his sisters, Lucille Blocker and husband Richard of
Monongah, WV, and Rosemary Hartman of Phoenix, AZ; his sisters-in-law,
Kathryn Loss of Monongah, Jeannette Barr Baczuk of Mansfield, OH; many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Domico
Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be a graveside
memorial service and celebration of his life to be announced in the spring.
