Denise Wood Roncone, Class of 1976, and Mike Roncone, who graduated from Moon Township High in
Pennsylvania in 1973, which is on the Ohio River and 12 miles from Pittsburgh,
are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. They live in
Denise’s grandparents former home in Monongah where, as Denise puts it, “The
town is your family.”
Growing up in Monongah I agree
wholeheartedly about the advantages of living there.
“Happy anniversary, Mrs. R. 20 years of fun and memories. And now more fun
begins.”
In 2019 for their wedding anniversary Mike
took Denise to the Canton, Ohio Palace Theatre for a “Dream Theater”
performance. COVID-19 makes this year’s anniversary more of a close-to-home
safe distancing event.
No wonder Denise and Mike have such
harmony. Mike plays bass and Denise plays the keyboard and both are singers.
After Denise dissolved her band she joined
the band with Mike in it. They got married and formed their own band, Straight
Up.
Both worked for the West Virginia
Department of highways in Bridgeport till their retirements.
They regularly attend the Holy Spirit
Catholic Church in Monongah. And regularly volunteer for the Italian-American
Festival in Clarksburg, West Virginia’s most Italian city. Denise sings the
Italian National Anthem at the festival.
Denise is a daughter Janice Gibbles
and stepdaughter of Danny Wood, who grew up in Monongah but graduated from
Fairmont St. Peter’s High. Her siblings are Kevin Wood, Janine Wood Watson and
Charles Wright.
After Danny and Janice divorced in
1981 Danny married Rosalie Hestick Wright, who had a son by first husband
Charles “Chuck” Wright. Sally Tarley Wood, Class of 1959, a retired
Fairmont State professor living in Hilton Head, South Carolina, was the late
Danny Wood’s brother.
Danny’s other siblings are David Wood of
Warren, Ohio; Ida Wood Burwitz of Ringgold, Georgia; Sherma Addington of
Rossville, Georgia; and Emma "Gene" Peters of Hutto, Texas. Danny
was predeceased by siblings Robert Morris, Class of 1964, Charles Morris,
Harley Wood, General Leonard Wood, Mary Lou Morris, Jerry Skormsley and
Ruby Lee Wood.
Janice had two daughters by her husband of 33 years, Michael Andrew Miller, who passed away in 2017: Kimberly Suan and Shelia Catteral. The late Michael David Miller was Janice and Michael Andrew Miller’s son.
