Irene Elizabeth Vozniak Stroud, Class
of 1964, and North Carolina native Brent Stroud, who got his master’s degree at
WVU, are celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary Friday, October
2.

They met when Brent attended WVU
graduate school and Irene was a Registered Nurse at WVU Medical Center after
getting her nursing degree from Fairmont State.
Brent is a Mountaineer twice over. He
got his undergraduate business degree from Appalachian State University in
Boone, North Carolina. Appalachian sports teams, like WVU’s, are Mountaineers.
Irene and Brent have
two children: Adam and his wife Laura who have a son, Jackson, 7, and Sarah Stroud
Mace, with daughter Nadia, 11.
Irene, Brent and their two children and
grandchildren all live in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Brent’s Nortel
Networks job took him in 1981. They moved to Raleigh from Cleveland, Ohio.
Irene notes, proudly, as I do, “We are
loyal Mountaineer fans!” For Brent, that goes double, as in WVU and Appalachian
State, one of the better small college football teams in America. Just ask
Michigan, which lost in Ann Arbor to Appy State a few years ago.
Irene’s parents were Edmond “Koozy” Vozniak
and Rosalie Hanus Vozniak, who attended Sts Peter and Paul Catholic School in
Monongah. My father, John W. Olesky, Sr., dated Rosalie’s sister, Ann Hanus
Pavlik, after my mother, Lena Futten Olesky, and Ann’s husband, Mitch Pavlik,
passed away. Ann visited my father in my Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio home during dad’s
final 7 months on earth, which were spent in my house.
Edmond Ray Vozniak, Class of 1962, is Irene’s
only sibling. Ed and Nina Villers Vozniak have been married 50 years. Ed is
also a Fairmont State graduate and got his master’s degree from WVU. Ed and
Nina live in Bridgeport. They have two children, both WVU graduates living in
Morgantown. They have one grandchild, Henry, 6.
Brent graduated from Erwin High School in
Asheville, North Carolina.
