Joyce Lipinski Evans, Class of 1969, retired after 45½ years as a teacher.

Her last school was Jayenne Elementary on Country Club Road in Fairmont. She also taught at Monongah Elementary, where she once was a student.

Joyce got the Fairmont State Professional Development School Partnership’s Excellence in Teaching Award.

She is married to Donnie Evans, also Class of 1969. They live in Monongah.

Joyce’s parents were Goldie DeFazio Lipinski, Class of 1937, and Henry "Cheese" Lipinski. Her grandparents – Goldie’s parents – were Cosimo and Josephine Ribel DeFazio, who came to America from Naples and Sicily.

Goldie’s siblings are Loraine DeFazio Barth, Class of 1951, who lives in Bridgeport, and predeceased Joe, Johnny (who once owned and operated DeFazio Esso Station at Bridge and Lyndon streets in Monongah) and Eugene DeFazio and Ann DeFazio Lowery and Katie DeFazio Manley.

Cheese’s brothers were Monongah High athletes Eugene "Luge," Ted, “Big” Jim, Joe, John, Frank and Lyndon Lipinski, and whose sisters were Stephanie and Loretta.

Joyce’s sisters are Sandra Lipinski Hawkins, Class of 1962, who married Charles “Chuck” Hawkins; the late Henrietta Lipinski Hawkins, Class of 1959; and the late Judy Lipinski Cook, Class of 1958, who married the late Shinnston High graduate Joseph Mickey Cook.  Judy and Mickey’s children also were Monongah High graduates: Vicki Cook, Class of 1977, and David Cook, Class of 1979, the last graduation class before Monongah was consolidated into North Marion High.

The late Mary Virginia “Ginny” Satterfield Lipinski, Class of 1942, was married to the late Eugene “Luge” Lipinski. Her siblings are Steven Sanders “Bucky” Satterfield, Class of 1949, a retired West Virginia Highway Patrol Officer living in St. Albans with wife Rose; Violet Irene Satterfield Thompson, Class of 1942, of Worthington; and Eleanor Louise Satterfield Kennedy, Class of 1946, living in Vero Beach, Florida with husband Robert; Bud Satterfield, Class of 1947; and the late Neil Satterfield, Class of 1952, passed away Feb. 9, 2015.
