Violet “Irene” Satterfield Thompson, Class of 1942 (obituary had it wrong as Class of 1943), passed away Saturday, June 2.

She was the widow of Donny “Junior” Thompson.
Their children are R.D. “Donny” Thompson III and D. Kim Thompson.

Her parents were Bessie Mae Davidson Satterfield and Orval Vernon Satterfield.

Her siblings are Stephen “Bucky” Satterfield, Class of 1949, part of my facietiously named Gang That Terrorized Marion County during our teen years, who lives in St. Albans; and predeceased Mary Virginia "Ginny" Lipinski, Class of 1942; Eleanor Louise Kennedy, Class of 1946; Donald “Neil” Satterfield, Class of 1952; and Orval “Bud” Satterfield, Class of 1947.

At Monongah High Irene was on basketball and volleyball teams, in the Dance Club, was Black Diamond yearbook managing editor and in school plays.

Violet "Irene" Thompson 93 of Worthington passed away Saturday June 2nd 2018.
She was born August 10, 1924 in Monongah,
Daughter of the late Orval Vernon and Bessie Mae Davidson Satterfield

Irene graduated from Monongah High School in 1943, She worked at the family business
Then Worthington farm supply Now known as Thompsons of Worthington.

Irene was a member of Worthington Baptist Church She enjoyed reading crossword
puzzles, vacationing with her family at myrtle Beach and watching West Virginia Mountaineer
Football and Basketball games on TV.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years Junior Thompson who she married
July 27th 1944 She is survived by two sons R.D "Donny" Thompson III and wife Brenda and D. Kim" Thompson and wife Debbie, 6 Grandchildren Jake, Brian, Wendy, Jacob, Les, Ben and spouses.

One Brother Stephen "Bucky" Satterfield and his wife Rose of Charleston 9 Great grandchildren,
several nieces and nephews, Sister-in-law Betty Satterfield of Monongah Brother-in-law Bob
Kennedy of Florida and Two loving caregivers Susie Jett and Natasha Metz. She was currently a resident of Fazio's eldercare in Monongah. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Two sisters, Mary Virginia Lipinski, Eleanor Louise Kennedy and two Brothers
Donald "Neil" Satterfield and Orval "Bud"Satterfield.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Wings of Hope at 327 Medical Park Dr.Bridgeport, WV 26330.

Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston, on Wednesday June 6, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 7, 2018 with Pastor Charlie Chipps officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Mausoleum.
