Haines feat not for acrophobics

David Haines, Class of 1964, enjoys visiting his grandchildren Matt and Courtney in Steamboat Springs, Colorado – and splashing in the Devil’s Pool, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe only inches from sure death 354 feet below as the Zambezi River forces you into the rock barrier that is your lifesaver.

MHS' David Haines
He survived to get back home in Richmond, Virginia on Monday, Sept. 21. He was at the famous Victoria Falls two weeks earlier.

I spent almost 20 minutes petting an uncaged tiger in Thailand, inside a 50 x 150 foot metal fence with no cages and seven other tigers in sight. But I think David beat me by loitering near the edge on Devil’s Pool.

David was in pharmacy management with Quorum Health Group in Nashville, Tennessee but for the past two decades has been cavorting in Virginia.

His cousin, Dave Lawrence Haines, lives in Fairmont, is a Fairmont West graduate and is maybe five years younger than the former Lion David Haines.
