Well, I knew that Monongah High girls
were beauties but, till I checked out the 1966 Monongah High Black Diamond
yearbook loaned to me by Debby Harden Morrison to prepare it for the 27th
online MHS yearbook album, I didn’t realize that the rest of Marion County was
as observant as I was in my testosterone-laden teen years.
Saundra Ann Tetrick Loretta was Maid of
Marion in 1966, just as Judy Blocker Kincaid was in 1965 and Judy Lipinski Cook
in 1958. That’s a trifecta of talent and beauty. Judy also was 1965 Monongah
High Prom Queen.
Saundra tuned up for Maid of Marion by
being on the Monongah High Prom Court in 1965. She married David Loretta, Class
of 1961, of Bingamon. Saundra was from Carolina. They moved to Moundsville and
St. Clairsville, Ohio, where Saundra unfortunately passed away April 3, 2010
after attending the 2009 Monongah High Alumni Reunion in Fairmont. She
was a member of the Moundsville Woman’s Club.
She is survived by her husband David Loretta, daughter Johna
Loretta Fogle, son Jason Loretta and brother Roderick Fay “Rocky” Tetrick, Class of 1964, of
Bingamon. Saundra and Rocky’s parents were Robert Tetrick and Betty
Burner.
Judy Cook’s mom is Goldie DeFazio
Lipinski, Class of 1937, sister of Loraine DeFazio Barth, Class of 1951.
I’m not sure who is related to Judy
Blocker Kincaid, but Monongah and Monongah High history includes Aden Blocker,
Class of 1968; Alice Rae Blocker Glasscock, Class of 1957; Mitzi Blocker
Shaver, Class of 1963; Scott Blocker, Class of 1968, son of the late Lucille
Loss Blocker and her widower, Richard Blocker of Monongah, lives in Clarksburg;
Susan Blocker Metz, Class of 1967; Victoria Blocker Nottingham, Class of 1969,
Scott’s sister, lives in Worthington with husband Tom; Marguerite Blocker,
Class of 1937, married Bob Nichols, the Monongah barber who became the town
mayor; Ann Chicako, Class of 1937, married another Richard Blocker; and the
late Monongah native Florence Hinerman Blocker.
If you know who are the parents and
siblings of each other, email John Olesky at jo4wvu@neo.rr.com
and I’ll unblock the Blocker genealogy mystery.
