His amazing obituary:
T. Elwood
Moon March 11, 1927 - July 14, 2015 |
T.
Elwood Moon was born in Marion County, West Virginia on March 11, 1927. He was
the son of Thayer Junior Moon and Mary Virginia Slusser Moon.
After
graduating from Monongah High School, Elwood felt privileged to serve his
country in the United States Army. At the close of World War II he served as
T-4 Finance Clerk, primarily in France. Stories from his time in the service
were among his favorites to tell his grandchildren; he was proud to have the
honor of serving his country.
In
1951 Elwood partnered with friend Harry Bane to start a Barrackville business,
Bane and Moon Heating. Even after retirement, he continued as president of the
business until his death.
He
became an active member of his community, serving with the Volunteer Fire
Department and playing on the Pop Time Softball League.
He
married his long-time sweetheart, Reva Mae Offutt, in 1957. He enjoyed
woodworking in his spare time and built the home where they raised their two
children. His children remember him praying daily at his bedside for his family
and friends. He became a member of Fairmont First Church of the Nazarene in
1942, serving through the years as choir director, board member, and in many
other capacities. He dedicated untold hours to help build their current
facility. He loved the church and felt a special calling to teach, faithfully
teaching Sunday School for over 50 years. Elwood loved people and his ministry
was far reaching. The Summersville Nazarene Camp Ground had a special place in
his heart.
In
addition to his parents, Elwood was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law R.
Dale Offutt, Virgil Radcliffe and Race Tolbard; and sister-in-law Alma Offutt
Radcliffe.
Elwood
is survived by his wife, Reva M. Offutt Moon; sister, Glenna Moon Offutt; son
and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Charlotte Moon; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly
and Donald Kincell; five grandchildren, Marcy Turner and husband Adam, Jared
Moon, Kiri Kincell, Keely Kincell, and Kelsie Kincell; two great-grandchildren,
Jude Turner and Baby Turner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Zella Offutt
