The Travel Channel lists The Original Hillbilly Hot Dog Stand #15 among its 101 Tastiest Places to Chowdown in America.

Where, what and how is Hillbilly Hot Dogs?

Where: Lesage, West Virginia, on the Ohio River in Cabell County, 12 miles north of Huntington and on the Ohio River.

What: Sonny Knight met Sharie McGarry met in Hollywood, California. They married and decided to set up shop in Sonny’s native state.

How: Customers and friends kept providing “hillbilly” items that grew and grew to the present staggering collection of Hillbillyanna.

While the media Lesage income is nearly $5,000 below the West Virginia average of $40,196, the median home price is $9,500 above the state median of $100,400.

Lesage has other notable assets, too.

Green Acres provides help for developmentally disabled adults in Cabell, Mason, Lincoln and Wayne counties.
By the way, Cabwaylingo Park between Huntington and Williamson got its name from Cab(ell), Way(ne), L(incoln) and M(ingo) counties.

The Jenkins Plantation Museum was built in 1835 on 4,000 acres of land by Captain William Jenkins and was the home of Confederate Brigadier General Albert Gallatin Jenkins, who was in the U.S. Congress when the Civil War broke out but led Confederate troops in forays across the Ohio River into Ohio from what was then western Virginia.

The family had a successful plantation at Green Bottom.

The Plantation is closed while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers does renovation work.
