West Virginia 6th worse in
preparing for college
But has best colleges
West Virginia is the 6th worst
state for preparing kindergarten through 12th graders for college, reports
Wallet Hub, whose goal is helping communities make smarter financial
decisions.
Approximately 83.9% of West Virginia's residents above
the age of 25 have at least a high school degree, but only 18.3% have a bachelor's
degree, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
West Virginia reported an unemployment rate
of 6.6% in March, higher than the national average of 5.5%, according to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics.
States that are worse than West Virginia are New Mexico,
Nevada, Louisiana, Alabama and, getting the ultimate dunce cap, Mississippi.
Wallet Hub is a social
media company that allows people to search for and compare financial products
and interact with communities. Wallet
Hub also does a myriad of state and local rankings.
Ironically, West Virginia tied with Maine and Montana for having the best colleges.
