Sitting empty 25 years, Fairmont’s
Spadafore Building will be renovated
The Spadafore Building at Fairmont
Avenue and First Street, vacant for 25 years in Fairmont, will be renovated.
Fuzzy
Mammoth Development bought four lots, including the one with the Spadafore
building, and razed the red brick building adjacent to the yellow-brick
Spadafore Building.
In 1995 the Spadafore with its Art Deco
influences was listed as a contributing resource to the downtown Fairmont
National Register historic district.
According to a report from the
Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, a couple years ago the Fairmont
Community Development Partnership (FCDP) wanted to purchase the property to
create a parking lot for the potential redevelopment of the neighboring
historic YMCA building.
