MHS grad Boots Viney passes away

Bueford “Boots”
Kile Viney, 95, of Monongah, peacefully passed away with his family by his side
Wednesday (April 29, 2015) at the John Manchin Sr. Healthcare Center in
Fairmont.
He was born April
5, 1920, in Ridgley, the only son of the late Charles William Viney and the
late Viola M. “Mackert” Viney Leatherman, and a stepson of the late Ervin
“Pete” Leatherman.
He was preceded in
death by his wife, Frances Virginia Weaver Viney, on Aug. 14, 2010.
Mr. Viney was a
member of First United Methodist Church in Monongah, where he taught Sunday School.
He later became a member of Monongah Baptist Church, where he was active with
Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.
He was a graduate
of Monongah High School.
Boots worked for
Consolidation Coal Co. Mine No. 63 in Monongah until he was drafted into the
U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his return he worked as an appliance
serviceman at Bell Furniture and Fairmont Wall Plaster, and several years at
Sharon Steel in Fairmont.
He then became part owner of Kitchens Inc. in
Fairmont and later opened his own business, Viney Appliance Service, from which
he retired in 1976.
Boots was a member
of the American Legion Post No. 17 in Fairmont and was also active with the Boy
Scouts of America.
He was an avid
sportsman and fisherman, with his favorite “fishing holes” being Shavers Fork
and South Branch of the Potomac.
He loved football,
with his favorite teams being the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Pittsburgh
Steelers and the Green Bay Packers.
