Opal Cool Shuttlesworth, widow of
Howard Shuttlesworth, Class of 1973, passed away Thursday, May 21. She was
pastor of the Four States Tabernacle since 1964.

M. Shuttlesworth
Opal M. Shuttlesworth, 83, passed away at her residence in Four States, WV on May 21, 2015. She was born September 17, 1931, the youngest daughter of the late Robert M. and Ella Moats Cool of Replete, WV.
Opal had
been the pastor of the Four States Tabernacle since 1964. She also worked 10
years, from 1967 to 1977, at Annabelle Grade School as a cook.
She was
married on June 11, 1953 to Howard J. Shuttlesworth, Sr., youngest son of the
late William T. and Goldie Murphy Shuttlesworth of Carolina, WV. Howard preceded
her in death on June 16, 2004.
Survivors
include three children, Howard J., Jr., and Jeannie Shuttlesworth of Fairmont;
Sherry K. Bubnowski of Lumberport; Kimberly S. and Jackson Snider of Four
States; eight grandchildren, Christopher and his girlfriend Bethany; Stanislaw
and his wife Miho; Matthew and his girlfriend Alisha; Kaila, Ben, Kaitlin and
her husband Brent; Jacob and Seth; five great-grandchildren, Paige, Emily, Ben,
Kailei and Zaiden; one sister, Ruby and her husband Doy Cowger of Webster Springs;
one brother Hartsel and his wife Gladys Cool of Buckhannon; many nieces and
nephews.
Opal had
touched so many lives in her lifetime. She took everyone under her wings and
nurtured them.
Her extended
family is too numerous to count but includes a special daughter-in-law, Pamela
S Shuttlesworth of Four States; one sister-in-law, Goldie Cool of Morgantown;
one brother-in-law, Arnel Carpenter of Hacker Valley; and a special daughter
whom she fostered, Enid Sepulveda of Carolina, Puerto Rico. She was preceded in
death by three sisters Lanna Bleigh, Lenora Carpenter, and Mabel Cool; two
brothers, Charles and Bobby Cool.
The family
extends their gratitude to Hospice Care. They were a heaven sent to our family
and so wonderful to our mother. We’d especially like to acknowledge Brenda,
David, Amanda and Doug for such genuine support and for being there when we
needed you most.
Family
will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike Street, Shinnston, on
Tuesday, May 26 from 2:00-8:00 pm; funeral service will be held Wednesday, May
27 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will follow at
Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to
