Jay Coleman, Class of 1971, has unpleasant news about Shockey Mayle, Class of 1964:

 “I got word that Shockey Mayle is in a coma at the VA hospital. He’s a long-time resident of our small community; please lift him in prayer.”

Shockey, son of Paul Mayle and the late Veldine Mayle Mayle, is in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital in Clarksburg.

Steve Mayle, Class of 1968, is Shockey’s brother. Another brother, Texan Dewayne "Sonny" Mayle, is buried in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.

Shockey was a starter on defense for the 7-2-1 1963 Monongah High football team and one of the captains on the 1963-64 Lions basketball team that finished 8-13.

He attended the 2014 Monongah High Alumni Reunion in Fairmont and the Four States #20 mine survivors reunion several years ago.

Veldine passed away in 2001 in her Carolina home after 61 years of marriage to Paul.
