Father of Monongah’s Anthony Richards passes away

Ernest James Richards, father of Monongah’s Anthony Richards, passed away Tuesday, May 6 in his Fairmont home.

Richards who are Monongah High grads include

Karen Richards Meffe, Class of 1967
Sharon Richards Soyer, Class of 1967
Carol Richards Brooks, Class of 1968

ERNEST JAMES RICHARDS
Mar. 31, 1934 - May 6, 2014

Ernest James Richards, 80, of Fairmont, passed from this life Tuesday, (May 6, 2014) in his home under hospice care after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Millersville on March 31, 1934 a son of the late Lillian Richards Gump.

Ernie retired as the supervisor of the Water Department for the City of Fairmont. He served as the President of the City Workers Union.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean War. He was the former owner of the Chuck Wagon Restaurant. He loved gardening and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Richards is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law Donna Talbert, who was  his primary care giver, Roxanne and Terry Booth of Harriman, TN and Tammy and Jeff Stuck of Deltona, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law Ernest Richards, Jr. and Doreen of Lexington, SC and Anthony and Jamie Richards of Monongah; one half brother Donald Gump of Fairmont; six grandchildren Patrick Talbot, Rebecca Rosado, Julie Richbourg, Cole Richards, Lanie Richards and Trevor Stuck; three great grandchildren Kallie Richbourg, Anderson Richbourg and Sophia Laymance also his pets Tippie toes,
Ginger and Muffie and several cats he took care of in the neighborhood.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Bobby Gump; two sisters Madge Securro and Betty Ann Gump; also one grandson Lucas Richards.

Friends may call at the Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St., Fairmont today from 6-9 pm and Friday from 10 to 11 am. Services will be held in the funeral home Friday at 11:00 am with the Rev. Melvin Ringer officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery with full military honors being presented by the US Air Force and the Taylor County Honor Guard.
