Terry Saban’s uncle passes away

Jack Constable, uncle of Alabama coach Nick “Brother” Saban’s wife, Terry Saban, passed away Tuesday, September 6.

Jack’s wife, Mary Jane Pulice Constable, predeceased him.

Jack grew up in Monongah. His parents were Job Cecil Constable and Gertrude Stout Constable.

Jack C. Constable, 87, of Fairmont passed away on September 8, 2016 at his home in Fairmont.

He was born in Laurel Lee, a small coal mining camp in Harrison County on November 14, 1928 and grew up in Jordan, Rivesville and Monongah, a son of the late Job Cecil Constable and Gertrude Stout Constable. He was the last surviving member of his family.

He is survived by his only child, Jacqueline Constable, and his two grandchildren, Gabriella Constable, and Adrianna Constable.  Several nieces and nephews also survive him including, Lucille Stanley, Rosemary (Paul) Oliver, Judy (David) Sutton, John Urso, Rose (Ronnie) Kann, and Sam (Concetta) Pulice, Terry (Nick) Saban, Tracy (Rocky) Harr, Jamie Choquette, and Tina White.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Pulice Constable. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters Eva Malone, and Ruth Dye, and his brother Paul Constable. Also preceding him in death was his son-in-law David R. Kovach and his granddaughter Mary Goddard Kovach.

Jack was the past president of the Fairmont Flyers Club where he enjoyed hours of friendship with the members. In the past he was an automobile enthusiast who enjoyed recounting his time in his various sports cars. His many hobbies included painting, photography, baking, sailing and boating. Even into his seventies he spent hours on his Flying Scot sailboat and his catamaran. He was a great lover of nature and dogs. His dog Rocky was his constant companion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairmont.

Before retiring Jack had been General Superintendent at Arkwright and Jordan mines at Consolidated Coal Company.

Friends may visit family at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont from 3-8:00 P.M. on Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church 901 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont with Pastor Valerie Gittings officiating. Entombment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery in Shinnston.

Marion County Veterans Council will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
