16 for Gary Haught, Class of 1971, who passed away Tuesday, September 13.
Funeral services
will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, September 16 at the Domico Funeral Home, 414
Gaston Avenue, Fairmont. Gary will be buried in the West Virginia National
Cemetery in Grafton with full military rites.
Gary is survived by
his mother, Nellie Fortney Haught, 81, who shared a Traction Avenue home in
Monongah with Gary. His dad, Jennings Haught, predeceased Gary. He also is
survived by his children Shawn, Jennifer and Sunnie.
Gary’s sister is
Tammy Haught Vandergrift of Frankfurt, Kentucky, who wrote:
“In Loving Memory of my Big Brother. Gary Haught.
01/22/1954-09/13/2016. U will be missed every day.”
Gary was a fighter, as a member of the Army and as a
boxer. He underwent surgery in October 2015, and had been in Veterans
Administration hospitals in Clarksburg and Pittsburgh for a total of 3 or more
weeks. But the disease finally put him down for the Final Count.
He also dealt with his Mom’s 2015 stay in Fairmont
Regional Medical Center.
Gary was the guy behind Gary’s Pro Painting. Another talent
that Gary had.
Gary’s fellow Class of 1971 member, Jafus “Jay” Holman,
Jr., kept Monongah High alumni informed of Gary’s situation as the news got
worse and worse.
Sue Schrader,
Class of 1971, who spoke to Gary during his final days, wrote to Jay:
“I am so grateful you let me talk to him,
Jay. Thank you for being there and letting him know that we all loved him. I
will miss his laughter. I enjoyed him so much.”
