Boy Scouts VSA Troop 7 received a plaque
for making improvements to the landscape in front of the Monongah Town Hall at Monday’s
council meeting. The Scouts landscaped the front of the building and they
planted new bushes in front.
Ramona Fullen Michalski, Class of 1949, who
lives in Monongah is my “Monongah Bureau Chief,” commented on the trophies in
the background.
Ramona’s email:
John,
The background of the Boy Scout picture you posted shows the MHS
trophies. The MHS Alumni Association arranged to have the trophies moved
to the Town Hall.
The Middle School principal wanted to display the Middle School
trophies in the cases in the school hall. The Alumni Association had purchased
the cases for the High School years ago and decided to leave the cases at the
school and have new ones made for the Town Hall. Don't know the exact
date, but was in the mid 1980's.
Greta Martin Mike wanted so much to keep the trophies together.
She was so afraid that they would be distributed to individuals and not
be able to be enjoyed by all. Greta was a 1922 MHS grad and organized the
first alumni banquet in that year.
She has held many offices in the association and in 1949
was named Permanent Executive Board Chairman. She devoted so much time
keeping the association going and was active in the association until she was
no longer able to participate.
Thank you, Greta. for all your devotion to MHS Alumni.
(Greta passed away at St. Barbara's Nursing Home several years ago. Greta
was also involved with the establishment of the home.)
Take care,
Ramona
