JOHN DAVID FAST PASSES AWAY

John David Fast, son of the late Ruby Collins Fast, Class of 1956, and another John Fast, passed away Friday, December 10.

His widow is Brenda Knobel Fast. Their son is Jimmy Nobel.

Cheryl Fast, married to Jamie Fast, was his sister-in-law.

In response to my request for more information, she replied:

“John grew up in Monongah. He worked 12 yrs for Champion Store (the Consol company store where MY mother worked when I was a teenager) until it closed.

“John helped Raymond joy with projects when he was a teen. He never told anyone “No” when they needed help moving things.”

Cheryl’s husband, Jamie, added:

“John took great pride in his work no matter what it was. He always had physical jobs, never easy ones and enjoyed a hard day’s work and he was proud of his family.”

Sounds like the kind of person I knew during my Monongah childhood. Must be something in the air that creates such a marvelous town!

Jerry Hornick was John’s uncle.
