Former Monongah High principal Dom
Muto passed away Tuesday, November 15.
His parents were Louise Mainella Muto
and Frank Pasquale Muto.
Dom’s obituary:
Domenick (Dom) Leonard Muto, 84, of
Fairmont, died Tuesday morning November 15, 2016 at Fairmont Regional Medical
Center. He was born in Fairmont on September 17, 1932, the eldest child of
Frank Pasquale Muto and Louise Mainella Muto.
He completed his public school
education at Fairmont Senior High School in 1949. In 1953, he graduated from
Fairmont State College (now University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Education with a major in mathematics. He later received a Master of Arts degree
in Public School Administration from West Virginia University. During a summer
of study at WVU, he was a National Science Foundation scholar.
Immediately out of college, he began
teaching math at Rivesville High School where he taught for several years. He
later served as assistant principal at Farmington High School and as principal
at Monongah High School. Due to his love for teaching, he returned to the
classroom, teaching math at East Fairmont High School until his retirement in
1985.
During his years of teaching, he
served as President of the Marion County Teachers Association, President of the
WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and worked on a state-wide basis with
high school student government associations.
Dom enjoyed playing many sports, and
in partnership with his brother under the Marion County Playground Association
was responsible for teaching tennis every summer to hundreds of Marion County
youth during the existence of the clay courts at Twelfth Street. He served as
golf coach and cross country coach at EFHS, and was a former member of the
Green Hills Country Club.
Upon his retirement from teaching,
he began spending winters at his home in Naples, Florida until a few years ago
when he became unable to travel.
Dom was preceded in death by his
parents and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his brother Joseph
(Anne Drane) Muto, of Scott Depot formerly for Fairmont, and his sister Lois
Laughlin (William) of Fairmont, as well as his nieces and nephews, Jennifer
Muto, Mary Beth Briskey (Michael), Dr. Michael (Bobbie Jo Steele) Muto, Wendy
Gilpin, and Dr. Frank (Dr. Deidra Naylor) Muto, His great nieces and nephews
are R. J. Yanero, Alex and Matthew Brisky, Nick, Joe and Gianna Muto, Anna and
Julia Gilpin, and twins Anthony and Christopher Muto. He is also survived by an
aunt and several cousins.
His family is very grateful to his
caregivers at the time of his death, Carol, Charlene, Cheryl, Faith, Jeana and
Marge, who Dom loved and appreciated very much and to the nurses in the ICU at
FRMC for their care and attention to him.

P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 18, 2016
at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Fr. Robert A.
Perriello as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
