Goldie DeFazio Lipinski,
Class of 1937, passed away Tuesday, April 4 . . . one day before what would
have been her 100th birthday.
Her parents
were Cosimo and Josephine Ribel DeFazio, who came to America from Naples and
Sicily.

Goldie’s siblings are Loraine DeFazio Barth, Class of 1951, who lives in Bridgeport, and predeceased Joe, Johnny (who
once owned and operated
DeFazio Esso Station at Bridge and Lyndon streets in Monongah) and Eugene
DeFazio and Ann DeFazio Lowery and Katie DeFazio Manley.
Goldie is the widow of Henry “Cheese” Lipinski, whose brothers were
Monongah High athletes Eugene, Ted, “Big” Jim, Joe, John, Frank and Lyndon
Lipinski, and whose sisters were Stephanie and Loretta.
Goldie and Cheese’s
daughters are Judy Lipinski Cook, Class of 1958, that year’s Maid of Marion (as
in Marion County); Henrietta Lipinski Hawkins, Class of 1959; Sandra Lipinski
Hawkins, Class of 1962, widow of Charles
“Chuck” Hawkins; and Joyce Lipinski Evans, Class of 1969, a teacher at Jayenne
Elementary School on Country Club Road in Fairmont who won
Fairmont State Professional Development School Partnership’s Excellence in
Teaching Award and is married to Donnie
Evans, also Class of 1969.

Goldie DeFazio Lipinski, 99, of Monongah, passed away
Tuesday (April 4, 2018) at Pleasant Acres Christian Haven.
She was born in Monongah on April 5, 1918, daughter of
the late Cosimo and Josephine Ribel DeFazio. Her parents immigrated from Naples
and Sicily.
Goldie graduated from Monongah High School in 1937. Her first job was working for Frankie Pulice at the Town House Motor Lodge in Fairmont. She retired from the Westinghouse Cafeteria in 1980.
Goldie is survived by her daughters, Judy Cook, Sandra Hawkins and Joyce Evans and husband Donnie; son-in-law, Fred Hawkins; grandchildren, Vickie, David and Brad Cook, Lisa Saenz; Laura Hawkins; Kristi, John and Dr. Thomas Evans; great-grandchildren, Logan and Henry Cook, Justin and Lane Saenz and Johnston Donn Evans; a sister, Lorraine Barth; sisters-in-law, Ruby Lipinski and Jean DeFazio; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Goldie is preceded in death by Henry "Cheese" Lipinski, who passed in 1988, and a daughter, Henrietta Hawkins, who passed in 2015; three brothers, Joe, Johnny and Eugene DeFazio; and two sisters, Ann Lowery and Katie Manley.
Goldie was a faithful and caring person. She loved to bake bread and pepperoni rolls and share with family and friends. She loved playing bingo at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. She never drove but was always ready to go and have fun. Her smile was contagious and her love was enduring. Granny Goldie will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank Deckers (now closed), Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center and Pleasant Acres Christian Haven, the place she has been the last five years. Thanks to Amedysis Hospice and all those who were there for Goldie in any way.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 8 and from noon- 8 p.m. Monday, April 9 at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday with Deacon Lou Belldina officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah with Father Vincy Illickal as celebrant. Interment will be held at Mt.
