Tom LaFollette, Class of 1954, passed away Monday, February 26 in Woodsfield,
Ohio.

Tom played football at Monongah High
(he’s in the 1953 football squad photo in the 1954 Black Diamond yearbook). He
also was on the Black Diamond yearbook staff, played in class basketball tournaments
and was in the junior class play.
Bill Meredith, Class of 1957, his
cousin, said that Tom lives in the Woodsfield area most of his life.
There’s a Tom LaFollette mortgage
broker (since 2011) in Woodsfield at the Citizens National Bank of Woodsfield,
but it’s not mentioned in the obituary.
Tom’s brother, Bob LaFollette, lives in
Lewisville, Ohio, which has a population of 176 in Monroe County.

LaFollette, age 81, of Woodsfield, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at the
Arbors at Woodsfield.
He was born Nov. 4, 1936, in Monongah, West Virginia, a son of the late
Lawrence LaFollette and Martha Katherine Irvine.
He was a former employee of the Olin Mathieson Corp. and retired from Dana
Corp. in Caldwell and was a former president of USW Local 4836. He attended
Fairmont State College prior to joining the United States Marine Corps. Thomas
was a 32nd Degree member of Masonic Lodge #189 of Woodsfield, the
Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite, and member of Woodsfield Eagles Lodge #2302.
He was an avid pilot. He owned his own airplane and was always willing to
give free plane rides. He was a coach and fan of Woodsfield and Monroe Central
sports for more than 50 years.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry LaFollette; and
brothers-in-law, Chan Baker and Elwood Junior Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Baker LaFollette, of Woodsfield, whom he
married Dec. 29, 1993; his children, Venetia (Jim) Lane, of Kent, Lance (Angie)
LaFollette and Rodney (Sally) LaFollette, and step-sons, Bill Nixon and Brad
(Shari) Nixon, all of Woodsfield; seven grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Deidre,
Lindsay, Leah, Justine, Anne and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Kyler and
Hunter; brother, Robert (Eileen) LaFollette, of Lewisville; and several nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March
1, 2018, at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul Street, Woodsfield, where
funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, with Rev. Fr.
David Gaydosik officiating. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery,
Woodsfield. Masonic Lodge services will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at
the funeral home.
Family request memorial contributions be made in Tom’s name to St.
Sylvester School, 119 Wayne Street Woodsfield, OH 43793 and or the organization
of your choice.
