Kiley Marie shares net-cutting after Huskies win title |
Monongah pair in Huskies’ future?
North
Marion girls basketball team won its fourth state title Saturday by defeating Wyoming East,
72-62.
Taylor
Buonamici’s 33 points and 12 rebounds led the way.
If the
Huskies pursue a fifth state crown next season, Monongah's Kiley Marie Haney and Breanna
Shelosky might play roles.
Kiley –
daughter of Kiley Paul and Brandie Westfall Haney, granddaughter of Monongah
Elementary teacher Marcia Michalski Westfall and
Dave Westfall, both Class of 1974, and great-granddaughter of Ramona Fullen
Michalski, Class of 1949, and the late Frank Michalski, Class of 1948, who
played football for Monongah High -- was a solid sophomore on the junior varsity
team and got to dress for the championship games, which gave her a taste of the
atmosphere at the top ... and a piece of the net for a souvenir.
Breanna –
granddaughter of Tom Shelosky -- is a freshman who played junior varsity ball
for the Huskies.
Marcia and Dave, who live in Kilard,
are the parents of Brandy Haney, Amy Raines and Dave Westfall. Sometimes there
are 15 members of their family watching North Marion sports contests.
Kiley
Haney was a star in the Marion County middle school track meets, too.
Ramona and Frank have 23
great-grandchildren and 12 grandchildren.
Caden
Michalski, son of Michael Frank Michalski, grandson of Jay Michalski and
great-grandson of Ramona and Frank Michalski, competed in the junior state
wrestling tournament two years ago.
Tom Shelosky is a son of Julia Lazorick Shelosky and Stanley “Strob” Shelosky, the late superb golfer at Green Hills who built up his body by laying bricks and cinder blocks for home foundations.
Tom Shelosky and wife Phyllis live in Monongah.
