Diana Pishner Walker book becomes a play

Diana Pishner Walker’s “Hopping to America: A Rabbit’s Tale of Immigration,” has been turned into a play by the Vintage Theatre Company in Clarksburg.

It will performed by the Vintage Academy Youth Troupe inside the Uptown Event Center in downtown Clarksburg at 7 p.m. Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 28.

The play will be repeated on the Children’s Stage at the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival the following weekend.

Diana is a 1977 graduate of Clarksburg Notre Dame High School and Fairmont State who works for the Marion County Board of Education asa Fast ForWord computer aide at East Dale Elementary in Fairmont.

Her other books are “I Don’t Want to Sit in the Front Row Any More,” a memoir based on the loss of her parents, Anna and Louis Pishner, and a children’s book, “Spaghetti and Meatballs! My family is Italian!”

Authors at Tamarack

Lisa Myers McCombs, Class of 1976, and Diana Pisner Walker, who works for the Marion County Board of Education, will be among about four dozen authors at Author’s Weekend in Tamarack near Beckley Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10.

Lisa is a retired Monongah Middle School language arts teacher married to Monongah fire chief Harless McCombs, Class of 1976.

Diana is a 1977 graduate of Clarksburg Notre Dame High School and Fairmont State.

Diana Pishner Walker’s latest children’s book is “Hopping to America … A Rabbit’s Tale of Immigration!”

Her first book, “I Don’t Want to Sit in the Front Row Any More,” was a memoir based on the loss of her parents, Anna and Louis Pishner, within seven months of each other.

Her second was a children’s book, “Spaghetti and Meatballs! My family is Italian!”

Diana is a 1977 graduate of Clarksburg Notre Dame High School and Fairmont State who works for the Marion County Board of Education and lives in Fairmont.

 

‘Meatballs’ gobbles another award

Diana Pishner Walker’s “Spaghetti and Meatballs: My Family Is Italian” got honorable mention among children’s books at the London Book Festival.

Diana is a 1977 graduate of Clarksburg Notre Dame High School and Fairmont State who works for the Marion County Board of Education.

The grand prize for the 2015 London Book Festival is a $1,500 appearance fee and a flight to London for the awards ceremony in this month at the British Library.

Linda Tomlinson Stevenski, Class of 1955; Lisa Myers McCombs, Class of 1977; and Diana Pishner Walker, of the Marion County Schools, were there.

And they had plenty of authors for company at the Marion County Reading Council Author Showcase.

Linda, who lives in Monongah, has a ton of children’s books to her credit, including the “Chetty” chipmonk series.

Author showcase in Fairmont Dec. 13

The Marion County Reading Council’s first Author Showcase will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, December 13 at 406 Alta Vista Avenue in Fairmont.

Nine West Virginia and award winning authors will be present to autograph their books, which will be available for purchase. There will be a bake sale and the raffling off of items donated by local merchants.

Authors who will attend include Lisa Myers McCombs, Class of 1977, author of “I Have MS – What’s Your Superpower?” and several children's books and Monongah Middle School language arts teacher; Fairmont’s Diana Pishner Walker, a Clarksburg Notre Dame graduate who wrote ”I Don’t Want To Sit In The Front Row Anymore” and “Spaghetti and Meatballs: Growing up Italian”;
Georgeann Swiger, The Trinity Series (“Adorned,” “Cloven” and “Trivium”); and Linda Tomlinson,
Class of 1955, who lives in Monongah (“Chetty T. Chipmunk,” "The Ghost of Maple Road," "They Came to the Mine," “Monongah 1949” and “The Gnome’s Dome.”

National honor for Diana Pishner Walker

Author Diana Pishner Walker’s book, “Spaghetti and Meatballs: Growing Up Italian,” was gotten honorable mention in a national contest.

Diana writes:

“I have just been notified that my children's book has won an honorable mention award for best children's book from Hollywood Book Festival with an opportunity to attend a reception in Hollywood...OMG!”
