Charles Devaughn “Butch” Sabala, Class of 1973, passed away Sunday, July 2.

1977 Fairview graduate Milton Hurley, married to Debbie Weaver Hurley, Class of 1979, for more than three decades and living in Grant Town, wrote:

“I lost a good friend in Butch Sabala. I will miss his laugh and the timeouts he use to give us. God has him now. We will all meet again. Love you Butch. Until we meet again.”

Long friendships run in the Hurley family. Debbie has been friends with Kim DeMary Clowers, Class of 1979, since they were pre-schoolers.

Butch worked at Patriot Coal and lived in Monongah, where he grew up.

Josh and Crystal Nixon have a son, Urijah Jackson Sabala, born in 2014. Crystal’s parents are Donna Nixon of Lumberport and Jeff Nixon of West Milford.
